And do you think the quarians would just ignore it if a geth ship suddenly appeared in the flotilla to do some studying?

yeah, because that's the same thing as a science team on some backwater planet studying a dying star.

Beat me to it.

Pretty much, yes. That planet is in geth space, the quarians have no business there. If I were a geth I'd have thought they were up to no good and sent in troops to take them out, too.

Short term: Yes, probably. However this is only possible if they manage to overcome old hatreds and prejudice (mostly the Quarians mind) and as it looks right now this is very doubtful.

Long term: Hard to say. I'd say It's doubtful, and if it's at all possible then it would take many many years of diplomacy I think.

They did at one point. I don't think the Geth have old hatreds to overcome. The Quarians do. As much as you may dislike Korris, you may have to end up amplifying his voice of reason for being an apologist. Though that might ****** off Gerrell...and..........well. I don't want to think of something similar to the Harrowmount/Belen situation from Dragon Age.

As Tali said the Geth do blur the lines of synthetic and organic. That's why I wish you could ask Legion soooo much more. I'd love to see Tali speaking to Legion about the entire process.

I concur.  Honestly, even though the dialogue when you take Legion to the floatilla is pretty cool, I wished I could sit down in a circle with Tali and the Admiralty and have Legion tell them the things he told me.  By himself, with Tali and Shepard as mediators, Legion could potentially spearhead the road to peaceful co-existence by himself.  Before Legion came out from the veil, nobody had any clue what the Geth were up to or what their attitutes or motivations about anything were.  There is no telling how the Admiralty would react, but the information that Legion gives, assuming you take it at face value, is practically a "come on home" invitation.

My hope is that having helped Tali with her pilgrimage will bear fruit in ME3.  After all, her information was all about Geth evolution over the past hundreds of years.  It may very well reveal much of what Legion told you, once they decipher it (which Tali said would take years at the time you gave it to her).

They're studying an old Quarian colony that's star is dying out faster than normal due to dark energy. They were trying to see if the Geth were behind it or testing it out on that planet. Young stars don't become Red Giants after a few hundred years.

Has anyone considered the possibility that the Geth WERE testing out weapons... Weapons tests are kinda top secret

I think the most possible solution is for Geth to let Rannoch for Quarians and move elsewhere.
They've let us live in peace for 300 years and didn't leave the Perseus veil so they can do the similiar thing again.

Even if old Geth processes are still running, the Geth as a whole are more than intelligent enough to override their old commands if they wished.  As Legion says when you ask him why they're cleaning up the Quarian world, "The Creators died... perhaps we do it for them".

Why do I have a bad feling you're gonna have to prevent a war by persuading some Quarians (whether with words or otherwise...sigh).

I think the way around it may be with Tali's data from her pilgrimage, assuming you gave her the data (not sure if ME2 default had you give it to her?).  It was supposedly data about Geth evolution since the migrant fleet left.

Exactly. Though the information you received on the Geth came from the Heretic Geth, who COULD have evolved differently from that of regular geth.   But I would've loved to have Legion explain the war, though I don't think that the Geth are capable of lying, which would've thrown out any form of distrust about the Geth lying. Though if I'm wrong about the lying part, please correct me.

If those people had already tried to rob and kill me before, yes.

Also, let's just have the same situation with different species and you decide what the most logical response is:

A batarian ship drops off a bunch of batarians on, let's say, Venus. They didn't tell the humans they were coming.

What would the humans do?

The codex does say that they are analogous to mammals, and one of the main features of mammals is hair so.....
draw your own conclusions from that

if it was a weapons test then it was most definitely heretics because what good would a star killing weapon do for the geth if the quarians attacked, that is their worry, but the heretics want to destroy all organics so it would be quite useful to them.

Tali said it herself that it would take an incredible amount of resources to JUST test it out. For a race that seems to be as efficient as the Geth are (see: no windows as an example), it doesn't seem like something they'd do.

The Geth don't even really live on Rannoch for any purpose other than keeping it for the Quarians anyway.  Legion says that they live in space stations and get resources from asteroids, if only for efficiencies sake.  They don't need air or gravity, after all.  I don't forsee any problems with an agreement like that -- it may even be what the Geth intend.

you're right Wedge. *puts on astronomer hat* plus the fact that the star never hit singularity (it would've turned it into a black hole) and that it never shed its photosphere and coronosphere before becoming a red giant (Haestrom was arid, but not torched, as the mass ejection would have done). Either the Heretics were meddling, or those were Geth who got into a fight with the quarians before things could be talked out.

*puts software engineer hat back on*

if they were Heretics it could've been a Reaper (salvaged or given) weapon
