Aye, the Leopard 1 & 2 are both remarkable engineering works in regards to modern day panzer/armored tank units.
Based on documentary footage I've watched from professional producers I'm going to go ahead and hypothesize that that depends to a large extent on what your mission objectives are, what sort of logisitical network you possess and what sort of terrain you are operating in amongst other possibly relevant factors. The Israeli Defense Force for example, values the lives of its soldiers quite highly (makes sense given the relatively small population they have to draw recruits from) and thus have tended to favour heavily armoured tanks on all four sides (including the often more weakly armoured rear-side) of the construct while sacrificing speed.

The first steps must be taken sometime. But arrival of organic contacts neccessary to prevent destruction by C-sec.
It may well be. But the unit designated 'legion' managed to communicate with organics successfully, our contacts have arrived, and the Quarian will soon be taking us to address the Council. We will return with a result later.
It was nearly destroyed by other organics.
Quarians are not very well respectd by the organic council.
This unit expresses sadness. The Council... refused to see us. They assumed that this was a ploy by the Quarians to get themselves a spot on the Council for 'taming' the Geth. We were not granted the time to express our peaceful intentions.
Except with Shepard-Commander.
This unit finds an error in the runtimes of unit somebody1003. Mathimatical miscalucation excluded creator Tali as acceptable organic contact. Correcting now.

Improper analysis. Peircing ability based on projectile shape, target material and thickness. Cannot perice a planet.
