So in my current obsession (my movie thread) Someone said that in the Mass Effet movie, they should do a David Prowse type situation if Tali comes out.
I say just have LIz Sroka do the body acting (if willing) as well as the voice acting.
Just trying to get a sense of where the crew's at. Thoughts?

Really depends on what is the script / plot for the movie.
If its to be the full ME universe (Shepard's Story) then I would say nothing less then a trilogy with roughly US$400,000,000 as the working budget. Maybe more for them to do a good job of telling the story. Otherwise, it's gonna suck rancid monkey's arse.
If its gonna be a one time thing, single movie event, that'll still require maybe US$100,000,000 rough budget to work with and probably only do a "prequel" event. Maybe Battle of Elysium. (Shepard will can be Spacer / Hero or Colonist / Hero) and that will give them good room to work with.
If its gonna be a "single" one episode flick, I don't see how they can put in all our "beloved" characters, Ash, Liarra, Wrex, Tali and gang into the movie without seriously "re-writing" cannon history for Shepard.

Voice actors should play the characters. A LOT of them look like their counterparts. Joker in particular.
I think if Mass Effect ever had a 'movie' it would be a lot like what Halo had: A collection of CG and anime shorts put together. You could tell a lot of great stories that way.

It'll be heavy on the CG, like Avatar was. And how much did Avatar cost to make?
I don't mind them making a movie, just make sure its done right, done well, and not dry hump the story we know to hell.

I really, really don't want to see a Mass Effect movie if it's about Shepard and company. I feel that everyone's ME experience is very personal, and to have some sort of generic portrayal seems to go counter to the spirit of the series. But then, it even bothers me that Bioware uses default Shepard in the promotional art.

Ya. That is why I think the Battle of Elysium would be the most logical choice. It will set the the ME universe up nicely, has no prior "history" for fans to quibble over, and lets face it, its gonna be a big fracking heroic gunfight both on ground and in space. Massive space and ground battles raging + heroic effort by Shepard = Win at least as far as action cinema is concerned yes?
Just throw in good Bioware story writing and it'll be fine.

Well *if* Bioware is massively involved with its story, *then* I'll submit that there is hope that it'll succeed where others have failed miserably.

A successful video game movie is entirely possible, it only requires that certain quotas be met.
Bioware for the story.
The team behind District 9 for action and effects.
And an all star cast of badass actors, artists, musicians, and Morgan Freeman thrown in for good measure.
You can't have an earth shattering epic movie without Morgan Freeman. It just isn't done.

The entire main theme of Mass Effect is that it is your story. You play as if you're Commander Shepard, you step into his shoes and make the major decisions. Having a Mass Effect movie would force them to make one canon playthrough and follow through with that one. I would watch the movie, and probably enjoy it, but it would detract from the feel that the ME universe is mine.

I agree. From a serious standpoint, I think a movie similar to the Animatrix or Halo Legends would be GREAT for ME. Think about it.
You could do a collection of short, stylized stories, and with the lore in Mass Effect being as massive as it is, the potential is limitless. The Geth Uprising, The Krogan Rebellions, The First Contact War, a short story detailing any one of these, done properly, would be amazing.
Or they could show us the stories we've always wanted to see. Wrex vs. Aleena(Aria?), Garrus's rise as Archangel, Legion's hunt for Shepard and the eventual aquisition of his armor. Saren's involvement in the First Contact War, or at the very least, his brother's and how it turned Saren into the monster he became, or Anderson being one of the first N7 graduates. The list goes on and on. I personally, would LOVE to see something along these lines, bringing some of the best characters, the best storytellers, and combining them with some of the best animators in the world, and the result could be something very special indeed.

I could care less about Hollywood, anyway. I haven't been to the movies since... Capote, I think? I like the medium of videogames much more than film, and I have no interest in seeing my favorite videogame property forced into a 2-hour "major motion picture" mold. Mass Effect is a fantastic videogame narrative, and it needs no validation in the form of Hollywood interest.

ME has some excellent backstory that can most definitely be flushed out. The First Contact War in particular would be an excellent starter story for anybody just coming into the ME universe.
With a proper budget and solid directing, I would support something like that.
I'm still nervous that it would become a real piece of **** like most video game movies are though, so I wouldn't truly support any ME film unless it had excellent credentials.

True.
But EA is a business, and if they think they can put in XX amount of dollars and get back XXXX amount of dollars, they'll do it.

That would be awesome. It would keep Hollywood the hell away, and the ME voice actors could even pick up an extra paycheck. I like this idea.
