Ok, I was doing some thinking about why tali's eyes glow. As a design decision it means that you know where to look. The eyes are very important, we get a lot of information from the eyes. ME2 crew I believe included an entire team to work on the eyes. Anyway, so why do Tali's eyes glow?

The reflexive answer is the tapetum lucidum that makes animal eyes glow. However, on closer examination we must discard this theory. The tapetum lucidum is reflective. That means that it's like a mirror, all the light you see coming out is going in. Tali's face plate is tinted fairly heavily so the light that reaches her eyes has to be of higher intensity then that going out. There is also that the eyeshine does not seem to very based on light levels. The short version is that if she uses tapetum lucidum, Tali just became an ever bigger Badass Adorable because she's not just owning you, she's owning you while blind.

Thus we need to consider Bioluminescence, a fancy word for "Hey look that animal's butt is glowing." However, we need to ask ourselves why. For starters, while having glowing eyes night look cool there is a high chance that you won't be able to see if you do. However, carrying around your own light source is pretty cool at night when you don't have any other. Thus, I think that Tali's eyes are completely different from human eyes. I can't explain it any further but the reason for tali's eye glow has to be Bioluminescence, very powerful Bioluminescence that combined with specialized eyes would give them excellent night vision. So I think that Quarians were originally nocturnal on their homeworld.

That's very thought out and impressive logic. I really like the "Tali just became an ever bigger Badass Adorable because she's not just owning you, she's owning you while blind" line, nice touch. Not sure I agree with your logic yet, but still very well thought out.
