Random question about quarians as a whole. It couldn't really take 60 years or whatever to re-acclimate to their home world would it? I'm no expert on the stuff, but I don't see how 300 years is enough for any significant change in a species' biology. Is it something explained in the codex with their immune systems or something, or just a plot device that doesn't make sense when examined closely?

If you live in sterile environments for 300 years your immunity is bound to become weak.

"Anything not constantly challenged becomes weak." -Wrex ME1

Quarians already had weak immune system. "Adaptable." Time aboard ships weakened/removed this trait. Real world example: Humans in sterile conditions exhibit weakened immune response. Sudden exposure to real world bacteria/viruses results in illness and/or death.

I'm not talking about how weak their immune systems are, I understand that.  I'm questioning the adaptability.  While sudden exposure is dangerous, prolonged slight exposure would make it stronger.  And I can't see any way where it would take 60 years to adapt to an evironment that you were adapted to a very short time ago.

Btw, why can't they get the ships clean enough to take off the helmets on the flotilla?

If the filters break then they would all die.
Precaution I guess.

Pretty much that.
300 years is simple not enough generations for a whole species to suddenly lose their immune system through evolution.
Now, being raised in a sterile environment will ruin your immunity because you develop anti-bodies only to the diseases you are exposed to.  However, this doesn't mean that your immune system is non-functional, only underdeveloped.  Exposing yourself to pathogens in a controlled manner should bring it back.  It won't develop as quickly as it would have when you were young, probably, and perhaps with greater risk, but you can build it up and it won't take 60 years.

Agreed. "Exercising" immune system in controlled manner shoudl resolve issue. Is true in most humans. Quarians may be special case. Immune system not evolved to attack intruders. Simply to find sybiosis. Results in accepting all foreign matter and "testing" for usefulness.

No, perhaps you should be a Quarian.

They are. But since their ships are held together with duct tape and happy thoughts, hull breaches are a constant danger. As such, they always wear the suits, just in case. Only time they come off is if they need to mate.

Happened to Tali's mother. Side note. Anyone annoyed we do not know her name? Seems important. Need more data.

We have a lot more background info on Tali than we do on most other characters.  There just wasn't as much involvement with the characters, Tali specifically, as I think most of us would prefer.

That seems possible, although I don't see why they couldn't.  A longer adjustment period would be realistic, but 60 years?  I don't know.  Also, any Quarian
born today should have the exact same immune systems that Quarians born
on Rannoch 300 years ago did.  If they go home, they should be living
out of suits in less than one generation.  Older Quarians may not be able to adjust quickly enough, but younger ones like Tali probably could, and any newborn would have little trouble.

Just curious. Can Quarians be biotics?
