Tali is as much a soldier as she is an engineer. I don't think, Ash woulkd have that much of a chance, the would deactivate Ashy shields and weapons.

The biotics are an other question, since one don't really know, how powerful they really are, the difference between the normal combat abilities and the video sequences is just to huge.

Seriously do people even use Tali in combat? She's a ninja! On Insanity as long as she only uses shotguns on husks then she does just as much as my other squaddie. Samara and Jack are in the boat where during their recruit missions they seem unstoppable, until they actually get in your squad, then they get significantly worse (especially Jack, I thought I'd be invincible with Jack after that mission but then she's dying left and right).

You never see them showing off Tali's combat skills during her missions (except unlocking doors at lightnning speed) but don't doubt that she's a freaking ninja

I was assessing based on projected combat ability due to what we know from the lore, not actual combat balance during gameplay.  Obviously they aren't going to make the characters wildly different in power, or no one would use the less powerful characters.

And I don't know where you're getting the "Tali is a soldier" thing, frankly.  She is only ever described as a genius of an engineer.  Of course she has combat experience, and she can shoot a gun and control mechanical things, but there is no way that she knows how to handle a firefight the way that Ashley does.  Ashley is a soldier by trade, and a very good one.

They say it during Tali's loyalty quest that she received marine training. So Tali is an engineer and a soldier.

Well, I did some ME-Pulp Fiction parody (with Tali assuming role of Jules and Jack as Vincent in car washing scene), but I kinda screwed it up (dialogue kinda out of Tali's character). If you want, I can send you PM with that so you could attempt to make it better... at least a bit.

There was a debate on what squad member would win a battle royale before, and the discussion was that it really depends on who is in what place at what time.  If you're talking about a straight toe-to-toe fight, Samara or Jack would probably win, having the highest natural biotic abilities.  However, if everyone started at their "default" positions, i.e. Samara in the observation deck, Miranda in her office, then Tali would win hands down.  That's because she could disable life support and flush the air supply to the ship from engineering (you could argue that EDI has control over that, or that she would have to go to the life support room, but Tali is an expert hacker and she is the only character regularly by a control panel).  Since Tali is the only person on the ship who is in a self-contained atmosphere at all times, everyone else would pass out but her.

In summary, Tali wins.

QFT...but still made me laugh  so true though.

That's a fair assessment but I am going to feel terrible choosing between Liara and Tali in ME3...

Haha I agree, that's why I'm not going to ;)

My original playthrough was with Liara, and I'm going to stick with her.  She really needs help right now.
But I love Tali; as soon as I discovered she could be an LI, I didn't even finish my first ME2 playthrough.  I made a new ME1 import without a romance and played through with that, hahaha.  So I have one devoted to Tali and one devoted to Liara.  Maybe I'll play out the conflict later, just to see how it works out ;)

If you go by what Lemm describes in ME: Ascension, the training quarians receive before their Pilgrimage is pretty intense.

I use her all the time.  I specifically said I was NOT basing my assessment on gameplay but on lore info.

Oooooooooooo now this I didn't know. I thought since KalReegar was like "we lack the frontal assault strength" meant they practiced in espionage. Very interesting. I must read this book!

Ash is running away from two Geth Drones, Tali is basically surrounded by dead Geth, when you find here in the last room on Haestrom. ;)

Yeah, I know, it is no real comparison, but Tali knows how to fight.

(Isn't that even said in ME2 at one place? I think when you don't hug her, Shep mentions something like "your father gave you the best soldier training there is" or something like this)

No what happens? Does she die?! I was mostly referring to the cutscene where she lobbed the grenade and dove out of the way all ninja-like , cuz in that scene you're pretty much "supposed" to save her so she can repay her dept to you

That bit was kind of surprising: what he was describing sounded like most quarians could function on a SWAT team by the time they were ready for their Pilgrimage.

What Kal was saying I thought was basically about quarians lacking the numbers for any kind of frontal assault.  I mean, they've got 17 million total population.  Assume only a quarter of them are front-line fighters and you're at around 4 million fighting effectives.  Just that one heretic base had something like a million and a half mobile platforms in storage?

I did it once in six or seven playthroughs.

Basically because I dated Jack in this playthrough and was afraid I would "fall" for Tali again, if I would go the all emotional route.
