This is just my perspective:  (paragon) Shep dying would be more tragic.  Knowing that his death would cause such desolation in her would probably make his last few moments very unhappy (even if it was a noble sacrifice). 
I would suggest that in the opposite case Shep is just going to add the tragedy of her death to the many ones he already carries.

Mixed with phsyical effort you usally soak up the air threw your mouth, giving it less time to warm up and then well - the air burns like fire, with every breath you take. Makes you break, break down and just want to be left alone.

Breathe through your nose, man, it's there to warm and moisturize that air.

Yeah, I was kind of leaning toward that myself. Shepard is a pretty stoic guy... especially if you're a colonist sole-survivor, used to always being the last man standing while everything around him explodes. But Tali would be absolutely devastated, she feels emotional loss like that very keenly..
