I kinda like the eyes of the purple one, but I much prefer the skin tone of the original. The only reason people think they have purple skin is because of Tali's face mask and the facial placeholder underneath--and even then it's more of a purplish grey than full-on purple--and that's utterly baseless because the face underneath is just that, a placeholder. Sure, they could have purple skin, but it's just as plausible for them to have green skin (ok, not really, but you get my point (I hope...)). I honestly think it more likely for them to have relatively pale skin, but there are valid arguments on each side (except, frankly, the purple).
That being said, though, each person has their own personal preference, none of which will matter once BW shows us what Tali, and in effect quarians, look like. But we all should at least respect what the author's initial intentions were, regardless of whether or not we agree.
We really have no evidence on skin tone whatsoever. I don't really understand how you can say there is a smaller chance that she's purple. I personally see the facemask color being a proxy for skin color holding just as much weight as assuming that quarians pale without sunlight similar to humans. You're definitely right that we're completely in the dark until Bioware reveals her though.
Then why does Kal'Reegar's mask color change from light purple on Haestrom to black once he arrives at the Flotilla? It is illogical to conjecture that the color of their masks suggests the color of their skin.
I never said that all quarians had to wear purple at all times. The suits are their only way of expressing themselves, would make sense for them to be able to customize whatever they want. I still see purple as likely the default color, if I'm not mistaken, the majority of quarians wear purple. Also, it requires some suspension of belief, but Tali's appearance really has to count for more than other quarians, Bioware clearly spent a lot more time and effort on her appearance.
I still don't see why their suits can't be analogues for their appearance though. They have to spend their entire lives in them, they wouldn't dress up as space mechs or something not representative of them. Stuff like color and the shawls as proxies for actual appearance seems pretty likely to me.
