I don't understand why you need Liara by the way.
The mission doesn't involve Protheans, she's a century old and you have a 600-years-old-Justicar or a 200-Years-old-Ardak-Yakshi that may have like 10 times more biotic powere than her.
If she ends up being the Shadow Broker, That would be amazing. I could use her information network to actually be a step further my enemies. But as a Biotic? Hell no.

No, srsly, It seems I am the only one that actually likes more the ME2 Liara than the ME1 one. As an information Broker, she may be useful. She has purpose now, and feelings and stuff.

Bah. People are FAR too harsh on Ashley and Liara. I get tired of arguing these points, they crop of so often, but frankly I think people are far too selfish if they expect them to just drop all their sh*t and hop on board with you all of a sudden. I don't know, maybe people lack empathy, or the ability to see things from another's perspective, or maybe they just lack the commitment to stick with a relationship when it is in trouble and you have other options, but they both have good reasons for acting the way they do.
Ashley is an Alliance marine, and she is as gung-ho patriotic as any U.S. marine. You knew that from the beginning and it is what you expect. For her, finding out that you work for Cerberus would be like you finding out that your best friend joined the Taliban or the Neo-****s. Yes, her reaction is not rational, but also realistic given her personality and background. I'd expect her to be torn, and she is.
Liara I especially don't understand. People are acting as if she abandoned you when she is the only reason you're even alive! She is clearly suffering emotionally and psychologically from what she had to go through to get you back, and now all of a sudden she is just supposed to be cured of her obsession after two years of stewing hatred because you pop in the door and say, "Hey time to drop everything, lets go"? You expect her to be dedicated to you and she was -- she saved your life. How how about showing a little dedication to her?
Bioware is testing people's commitment to their original LI's by making a "troubled romance" plot, and frankly I think they did a good job coming up with reasons for it. Sure, they could have fleshed the dialogue out more, explained their motivations better, but how they act DOES make sense. People sure aren't very understanding.
Agreed on all acounts. Personally I would have picked Tali first and foremost as a love interest in ME1 had the option been available. I was interested in her already back then. I do not regret romancing Ashley and I do genuniely care for her character. Liara seems nice enough in ME1 and I felt bad for having to turn her down but I just never did feel sparks fly between she and I.

Honestly I was more piissed at Ash and kaiden then I was at Liara. They abandoned me. Liara, while consumed by revenge, has other commitments. I can understand that to a degree. She doesn't just blow me off. I still love tali but I can understand Liara. Ash and kaiden...well I think we're done there...Knoll Argonar wrote...

Yes, it is. Tali is an exceptional character. Expecting everyone to be able to do the same is just unrealistic.GeeMunkey wrote...
I get what you're saying, But Tali is just as committed to the Migrant Fleet as Ash is to the Alliance, and has a lot more reason not to trust Cerberus. Yet she still puts aside her personal bias for the sake of the galaxy. Is it too much to ask Ashley to do the same?
If you actually care about Ashley, I think you should be able to understand and empathize with her situation and her feelings; they are not unexpected or unfathomable.
If you simply don't care about Ashley then fine, but I get tired of all this stuff about, "Oh she abandoned me so it is okat to leave her". She didn't abandon you, she is conflicted. If you don't have the commitment to understand her situation and stick with her, the onus is on you. No excuses.

Still she doesn't see to have her priorites straight in regards to Shepard and stopping the Reapers.
From our perspective. Apparently her perspective is different. Granted, if the Reapers win I would argue that our perspective is the more correct on in terms of priority since everything else would become irrelevant (although I suppose if the Reapers win then the SB is gone too so that would solve Liara's mission too but at a very, very dear price). It is equally logical to argue from Liara's perspective that since Shepard and an elite squad of individuals from around the galaxy are already working on stopping the Collectors and the Reapers, that she can take time to focus on other pursuits that also appear to challenge a danger to the galactic community (i.e. the SB).

I think a lot can be explained by the lack of choices in ME1. Take me for example, I was never much of a fan of Ashley or Liara in ME1, but romanced Ashley because I liked her slightly more. If that was a real life relationship, there's no way it would be strong enough to get through something like what happens in ME2. I feel like I would try to work through problems like that for Tali. My relationship with Ashley wasn't near strong enough to survive ME2, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I think a lot of people may be the same way, and the reaction comes across as related to other reasons.
If the same thing happened with Tali going into ME2 I feel like I would be much more forgiving, because I care about her more. For a troubled romance plot to work, you have to actually care about the person. I didn't care enough about the ME1 LIs to make them work.
