In the Liara DLC, even after you help her kill the Shadow Broker, she still won't join you, instead she will become the new Shadow Broker.
I now hate Liara almost as much as Ash and Miranda

That is a fair point. In general I would still call you a cad, though, for leading on someone you didn't care much about so you could sleep with them "just because".Phil725 wrote...
For a troubled romance plot to work, you have to actually care about the person. I didn't care enough about the ME1 LIs to make them work.
That's fair, and also a result more of it being a game to me. I most likely wouldn't have made those same decisions in real life. Well, I still would have been nice to her, and she confuses that with love, but I definitely would have gone for the person I cared about (Tali,) over her.

Yes, it is. Tali is an exceptional character. Expecting everyone to be able to do the same is just unrealistic.GeeMunkey wrote...
I get what you're saying, But Tali is just as committed to the Migrant Fleet as Ash is to the Alliance, and has a lot more reason not to trust Cerberus. Yet she still puts aside her personal bias for the sake of the galaxy. Is it too much to ask Ashley to do the same?
If you actually care about Ashley, I think you should be able to understand and empathize with her situation and her feelings; they are not unexpected or unfathomable.
If you simply don't care about Ashley then fine, but I get tired of all this stuff about, "Oh she abandoned me so it is okat to leave her". She didn't abandon you, she is conflicted. If you don't have the commitment to understand her situation and stick with her, the onus is on you. No excuses.
I agree with you on this up to a point. The part I diverge from your view on is where the onus falls. It's a two way street and while I do find Ash's follow-up e-mail touching at no point does she state that she wishes to remain together. On the contrary she specifically mentions (as she did during the Horizon conversation) that time has passed and that neither she nor Shepard are the same individuals now that they were back in ME1.
In real life I would have communicated at greater length with Ash before dropping her as a love interest, but given the choices made available to me in ME2 there is no clear way to have Ash confirm that the relationship is still on and there is no respectful way to conclude it either. All Ash had to say or write in order to have me/my Shepard stick around for a while longer would be something as simple as, "I'm a bit confused right now. There's a lot to take in right now and I need a bit of time. Okay?" That didn't happen (had BioWare done so it would have made the decision to romance Tali or any other LI that much more excruciating for me).

It is true that you can't be nice to her without her assuming that you want to pursue a relationship, and that is Bioware's fault. She is the one LI across both games (well, Kaiden too) where there is no conversation with an explicit decision to pursue the romance. Being nice to her is enough to get her to sleep with you, and it is hard to dissuade her.Phil725 wrote...

Still, my point wasn't that people should stick with her if they don't care about her, my point was that the reasoning they're using to make it sound like she is way off in left field and has totally abandoned them for stupid reasons is nonsense. Her reaction is completely within the bounds of expectation. Either you have the commitment for her or you don't. Own up to it.

I've wondered how Tali would react to you cheating before. In the end, I think she would believe that you only care about her now. She really likes you, and I don't see how she could expect you to completely destroy her emotionally after the events in ME2. She probably wouldn't be happy about the situation, but I don't see it as a deal breaker.

I don't understand why you need Liara by the way.
The mission doesn't involve Protheans, she's a century old and you have a 600-years-old-Justicar or a 200-Years-old-Ardak-Yakshi that may have like 10 times more biotic powere than her.
If she ends up being the Shadow Broker, That would be amazing. I could use her information network to actually be a step further my enemies. But as a Biotic? Hell no.
Samara is closer to 1,000 years old and Morinth is over 400 years old since Samara states she has been hunting her for over 400 years.
Samara is 600 acording to this: http://masseffect.bi...e/squad/samara/
But I did mean to say 400 years old for Morinth. My bad =P
Oh, and BTW, Tali is just the best.

"You wanted proof? There it is!"
It certainly sounds genuine yet it needn't automatically be proof that this is the story path BioWare will pursue with Liara in ME3. Given the branching story lines of the ME games it could just as easily be one potential story path BioWare thought of, recorded some voice work for and then decided to put on the shelf. Guess we'll find out in ME3. If Liara does become the new Shadow Broker, and barring she runs everything above board (which seems questionable given her existing slip to darker methods such as threatening a human with mind flaying and Asari commandos), I will consider her an enemy of my Paragon Shepard and deal with her as need be. If that means peacefully placing her under arrest, fine. If it means putting her down like a rabid dog then so be it.
P.S. A third alternative might be to persuade her to end up under the direct supervision of Alliance and/or Council authorities as an intelligence network.

I'm hoping there will some kind of catfight between Liara and Tali in ME3 (for me anyway).
But if it comes down to life or death, like Samara vs. Morinth, I might shed a tear...
before throwing Liara out a window.
