I know, I just find it silly that you can kill Samara and replace her with a person who tried to kill you.
True, but from a renegade's point of view Samara will kill Shep when the mission is over. Morinth - you can avoid, but Samara will hunt you down wherever you go. For a renegade it's safer to kill Samara, for a paragon the best choice is to kill Morinth
I don't see that as true as all. I don't remember if she said she would kill you if you made her do anything truely immoral, or if you yourself did, but either way, nothing that takes place in the game is truely immoral. While you may find some renegade actions wrong, none of them are anything like killing innocent people for fun. Stuff like that is what she's referring to, since after her code, she has sworn to do anything you say. Killing an extra merc or two isn't that bad.

Look for the scene from the infirmary aboard the Normandy in ME1 when Shepard wakes up after his first mind meld with the Prothean decoders.
Also, look for video footage of Shepard choosing to romance Morinth. There is no "happy ending" for Shepard on that occasion.

Haha, that's great.

Actually, if you are a big enough scumbag, Samara warns you that she hopes she doesn't meet you again after the suicide mission because she'd hate to have to kill you.Phil725 wrote...

Really? What choices do you have to do to get that dialogue? I've gotten full renegade before and not seen that.

I agree, and that sort of thing is a different matter in a video game than a movie.Phil725 wrote...
I'm sick of unhappy endings, I don't care how cliche the good endings are <_<
A movie is often meant to send a message of some kind, and sometimes that message can get lost or minimized if they take the happy way out. It is also a medium where the viewer is just that: someone watching things happen to other people.
A video game, however, especially an RPG, is primarily an experience where the player is meant to feel as if they are part of the world that the story takes place in. Even if philosophical questions are raised or controversial topics broached, that isn't the point of the game. The player should feel rewarded for the experience of playing the game, and if you make a game where the only possible outcome is for the player to feel emotionally beaten or devastated after having invested hundreds of hours getting to know and love his crew, he will not feel rewarded. It will have emotional impact, sure, but frankly if there is no way for me to have a love interest in the game and not have her die at the end, I don't care how emotional it is; I'm not going to want to do it again.
Not that there won't be an ending where that could happen; if you make mistakes expect to reap the consequences. But I fully expect there to be an ending where your whole crew (or at least your squad mates) lives, or perhaps requires just one of them to make a noble sacrifice. It gives us something to play for if we don't attain it the first time.

Samara's lack of resposibility and compasion was kinda a turn off for me.
I experienced a similar reaction initially, however once I began to dig deeper there's so much more to Samara - perhaps even more than she is comfortable to admit even to herself after all this time with her code being her guiding light. I have no illusions that if she is to remain a justicar that it will be all but impossible to soften her stance on things, yet perhaps with sufficient Paragon persuasion in ME3 (presuming she returns if you kept her alive and didn't go Renegade), we might see a similar change as the one that took place with Bastilla in KoTOR 1.

THIS. Sad endings in movies or books can be pleasantly cathartic because there's a distance between the audience and the material. Video games tend to be more immersive and make the tragedy more personal.Pauravi wrote...

shes actually quite interesting considering, i think, that she does feel for the peole her code compels her to kill...the fact that she does it anyway was a deal maker for me... bit surprised she and nihlus tried to kill each other thoughThe_KFD_Case wrote...

Yeah if thats actually in the game I'll concede on that point. I've never seen that dialogue. I still doubt how true it actually is that she'll kill you though, there are much worse people who need dealt with than renegade Shep.

It's basically an alternative (and more dramatic) version of Tali and Shepard meeting on Freedom's Progress. Next chapter will be when you go to Haestrom.

A well made sad ending in a movie or book can also be pretty depressing, but in a game where you're in controll it gets really bad. Still hate Fallout 3 before Broken Steel, and any other game with bad ending i can remember

I don't know...Samara is a cool character, but I don't like people, that live after a code or a book or after arbitrary rules instead of thinking for themselves.
