IIRC the cop states that she has been asked to take Samara in to custody, not just restrain her for 24 hours (that was a clever use of laws by the cop to try and avoid an outright confrontation). If she leaves Illium that means losing the trail and waiting for who knows how long before maybe finding the trail again (and how many people will be killed by Morinth in the mean time?).

I find your notion of Samara being able to rely on the local Illium authorities naive in light of the corruption that we are told about by both local citizens and the cop on Illium. What you are proposing amounts to asking the fox to guard the hen house. Corrupt officials using their official power to protect criminal activities of mercenaries are all the more reason for Samara not to give in to their machinations, and flexibility on the matter in this case would result in her getting zero evidence from the Eclipse mercenaries (see the merc that is offered the chance to live if she tells Samara the name of the ship).

I guess, 24h would be enough to leave Illium. 

After an escape from custody she hardly would be able to investigate the Eclipse base, since she would be pursued by the police. 

There may be other possibilities and alternatives and I'm quite sure most of them would be better than try to escape out of police custody, like the code tells her to. 

I mean if she would be in custody for two days, after that she would be free to investigate further, she would still have to break out after one day? Great code indeed.

You seem to be contradicting yourself. First you say that she shouldn't kill the cop. Now that it has been estabilshed why that might be the lesser evil in the eyes of the justicar you change your argument and claim that she would still be able to search Illium for clues if she didn't kill the cop, yet this is the very same cop who has standing orders to arrest the justicar regardless of whether she has completed her investigation or not.  Thus the two alternatives you describe do not function since the cop already has her orders.

I didn't said, she could search for clues on Illium. She couldn't in any case (not without being hunted by the police AND the Eclipse at least), but she could either leave Illium without the information or she could get herself detained, break free, kill a few policemen and then flee form Illium without the information. 

See that's part of the problem: Why exactly couldn't Samara search for clues on Illium to start with? She hadn't broken the law at that point. If you will recall what the cop on Illium tells you, along with the accompanying comments by various citizenry, you may recall that the order came from the cop's political superiors. Given the reality that the Eclipse mercenaries get to run their illegal operations unchecked and are described as "owning" that sector of Ilium despite the cop not appearing to be on the take that raises the very real possibility that the Eclipse have bribed those same superiors.

Samara clearly is not afraid of being hunted by the Eclipse nor the police, in fact she demonstrates just how capable she is at dealing with the Eclipse mercenaries. True, there are more but she has centuries of battle experience and has undergone the gruelling training of the Justicars. The threat of violence is almost a moot point in terms of whether it would dissuade her from carrying out her investigation (it wouldn't).

You presume that once she has killed the police and broken free that she would automatically try to feel Illium. That is one possibility. Another possibility is that she will continue her investigation while staying out of sight. Illium is a big place and the police are not able to be every where at once. Also, the Justicar code likely compels Samara to continue her investigation regardless of the personal danger - nevermind her personal connection to, and interest in, stopping Morinth.

I kind of like the idea. It reminds me a little of the third game ending in the series I'm apperantly not allowed to talk about.

IMO, Shepard has become too dear to too many people to be killed off. Bioware hasn't made a habit of making your character die at the end of their games (KotOR, NWN (+2 expansions)- neither of which does the main character die at the end.)



If anything, there'll be a whole bunch of options- possibly the Ultimate Paragon or Ultimate Renegade endings will involve your character surviving.
