Hello guys!
I am the author of "zombie Tali" picture.
I'm glad some of you liked it, and grateful for your feedback!
Reading all those reactions was very motivating, so I decided to refine my old picture a little (only minor touchups) - newest version here:
i39.tinypic.com/2lwlmdx.jpg
(notice she caught a bad case of runny nose from all that repeated unmasking. Good job, hope you're happy!! ;)

There was lot of discussion about different features, let me add some of my theories and justifications:
Eyes - though quarians obviously have bright glowing eyes in game, night elf eyes on a portrait simply don't work out for me. I have to see the pupils, or the character loses all spirit and life.
So I went with only decent glowing implants. After all, quarian weak immune system probably makes them ideal for accepting foreign object, combined with their passion for technology they must be crammed with artifical augmentations. Just like characters in Deus Ex - I'm glad someone noticed the similarity.
Veins - I wanted her to be more hardcore, so I went with this. Some inspiration came from the Borg queen. But it probably was too much, with some distance I must concur that they do look unpleasant, so I toned them down in new version and made the skintone slightly heathier. (quarians do have red blood, right?)
Alien features - I would do them if I could, but I'm a lousy designer. There's no problem in designing ugly alien, but making an attractive one is above my skill.
Hair - I think according the book quarians don't have any, but again, aesthetic reasons - looked better.

As for my opinion on showing Tali's face in ME3 - if I was lead designer, I would either reveal it right in the beginning or never. For me it takes some time to get used to a person's face (no matter the actual appearance) and if they showed her only on brief moment at the end of the game it would result in my frustration in every case, whether she'd be attractive or not.
So maybe the quarians in ME3 will come up with some ultra hi-tech ingenious solution to reveal themselves, like transparent visor glass or something :-D

cheers,
Vespa

I honestly don't see how she looks anything like AlyxImage IPB

Apart from that, I'd definitely say it's alien. I can't quite say what it is, but she definitely has an alien look to her.

The only alien part is see on that picture are the veins and wires on her forehead.

Hey ves. I lovely art, although i don't agree on some elements, its still lovely.
She just looks too human for me.

Why does nobody seem to realise that Quarians MIGHT BE the space elfs of ME?
Who are you to deny it?

Just blame dark energy <_<

It just seems to me like you guys want a human. WTF.

Doesn't necessarily matter to me. In terms of personal preference, yea, I prefer humans. xD Though, when I did my FemShep run, I did Thane just because of how awesome he is.

'sides, what's wrong with wanting an overly exotic human species? :3 Asari are too... squishy. Where are you supposed to get a good grip?

I understand you want Tali for her personality and loving hips/ass. But if you perfer a human, why not romance one?
To me, Asari are different because of their...   "hair" and skin color. Thats what makes them an alien.

I don't want to start a war thou, i don't hate the first picture, but i don't like it either.

Hahah, don't gotta worry about starting a war with me. I was mostly making the Krogan joke from the citadel in terms of Asari there. Though, I will give long-winded posts that fully detail my thoughts. Take it in stride, none of this is meant as an insult - just my personal opinion.

I didn't really like the personality of a lot of characters this round. Tali is one of the originals that we had that, even back when ME1 came out, I loved and always had in my party. Part of it this round is going to be Nostalgia that makes one romance her - the previously unobtainable can now be romanced? w00t. The other part, of course, is the fact that I'm just a nerd/geek/whatever you want to call it and I simply love her personality.

I don't understand why an Alian race necessarily has to look alian. For all I know, they could be just slightly deformed or even, as the picture displays her, exotic humans. I think most Tali fans will be happy with whatever face we get within reason, because it was never the face that we loved the character for, but we still want to hold to an "Ideal." And that ideal for many is just a bit more human than the other races. :)

THE FOLLOWING IS SORT-OF SERIOUS

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but superb job on "weathering" the pressure suit. I like to see realism displayed in this way; bare metal, scratches, dents or just the abuses of daily life. I also like your inclusion of suit sensors on the forehead; might even like to see one or two more, perhaps on the cheek although I understand the balance needed between the mechanical and the biological.

Good effort with the translucent skin-of-sorts; if someone spent almost their entire life behind a UV-shielded faceplate, and most of that life under artificial lighting, you'd be expecting some serious paleness to the point of translucency. Nice.

I really like this intepretation - you've also done a spiffing job capturing her youth; a lot of other efforts make Tali seem a little older than she seems to be in-game.

Well done.

You've done some awesome work with the original and the new one is clearly just as amazing. Thank you for your effort we've all been touched by your work.

Yes, Quarians have red blood, dark red I've heard.

Edit: And there has been no mention of hair but they are mammals so the sky's the limit for you.

You make some good points, ofcourse nobody here knows how Quarians look, all just speculation. I feel sorry for the guy that has to model Tali's face.

The face is good, just the colors. I would not mind to see Tali like this, but not THIS human. I always liked her glowy eyes. At times, i found myself lost in them. But if it appears the has human eyes, I will adjust.

Sadly.

Great work there, applaud your work, regardless of our opinions on what Tali should look like ( Space elves damnit!) that's might fine skills you have.
Also glad you gave some thought to skin tone and such. While the Asari are blue, (artistic license on the "fiction" part of "science fiction") most of the other species we have seen have some good "core" science in why they look the way they looked from the Elcor, to turians to the Volus. I just hope that Bioware will out do themselves on the Quarians and give us both something believable and yet alien enough that most of us will be happy, relatively specaking of course, with the end result.

Ah, you're right. It'd definently have to be one of the eyesets that displays Tali's eyes as having a more vibrant "Glow" to them than a regular humans. That eyeset is too human, and wouldn't make sense to glow in that type of mask. :3

I wonder if Quarians have eyelids, and if they do, can you see the light under their eyelids...? O_o

IIRC the book says they do.
And if you look very closely you can see when Tali is blinking.

Or maybe I'm seeing things

I gotta be careful of looking very closely at my T.V. My vision is already bad enough as-is.

Don't burn your eyes out on that HD TV zoomed in on Tali's face, tempting though it may be. :3

Hey!

First off, thanks for doing that picture, it is truly amazing in it's sheer quality.  Extremely professional.  I remember someone who didn't realize that it came from a poster speculated that someone might have leaked Bioware's own work, hehe.

I have to say that I am one of the ones who preferred the "more alien" idea for Quarians, but after seeing your rendering of Tali I must admit that the face you gave her is not only attractive, but very much fits her personality.  There is room for Quarians to be more alien in other ways while retaining a largely human features, and if Bioware's design is as good as yours I will certainly not be disappointed.  You really warmed me up to the idea :)

In any case... fantastic work!

Thank you guys, and keep up the good work promoting Tali!

Sorry for not discussing more, but as for no native speaker, the tempo is little too much for me to handle :)

About the alien-ness, I agree with Driving Ghost, I just have to work on my designing skills more.

Y'know, I've never actually tried. I was thinking the conversations where it zooms in on their face, but now that you mention it, I might have to see if there's a button on this blasted remote for that...

*Begins fiddling with remote*

then again, my TV is a 32 inch, so I can just sit really... REALLY close and get the same effect. /blood-shot, wide-eyed gaze

Like everyone before me already said, amazing work. This is the Tali I have in mind till Bioware (if) shows us her face. The amount of detail is superb, that's also why I love it so much. Now ofcourse no one except Bioware knows how Tali really looks like, but I believe your version is definitely possible.

I hope to see more of your work in the future(hopefully more Tali Image IPB ).

Edit: maybe we should send this picture to Bioware(Chistina's/Bioware's twitter or something). Image IPB

I think that the glow in the mask is just to make her face more expressive, personally.
Glowing eyes doesn't make any sense from a biological perspective.  It would hinder vision, perhaps even to the point of blindness.

Also, Vespaz is right; glowing eyes just do not look friendly or personable.  They don't fit with Tali's personality.

Thats the same like saying that the turian mouth also makes no biological sense, or that 3 fingers also has no sense. A species adapts. Thats called evolution.

And Tali still looks friendly to me on picture number 4.
