Depends on various factors, such as what is the nature and status of Tali's and I relationship? Is it platonic? Is it on the verge of becoming romantic? Is it newly romantic? Is it a stable romantic relationship already? What does the person hitting on Tali seem to be like? How does she appear to be reacting to the attention? What seems like likely outcomes of the situation between the various participants (i.e. does Tali seem interested? Dismissive? Scared? Does the stranger seem creepy? Aggressive? Is he/she alone or backed up by a group of friends? etc.)?

True, but it wasn't in pitched battle. He held the high, strategic ground with a high powered sniper rifle overlooking a single, narrow, open entry way. A very different combat scenario.

He was alone for several day, too. It was only recently that they banded against him.

He has been under assault for 24 hours while alone. Before that some of his team were still alive - they steadily died during the ensuing confrontation along with the duplicity of one of their own.

Seeing how on my ideal playthrough, Garrus is my heterosexual partner for life, he understands not to block my ****. Garrus is smart enough not to get in the way between Shepard and his chosen romance, in my case it is Tali.
