I'm pretty sure that every potential LI will be a (potential) squad member in ME3. So that means Tali, Garrus, Ashley/Kaiden, Liara, Thane, Jacob, Miranda, and Jack.

I don't think Samara/Morinth will return (as squad members). Liara will take their role as the biotic Asari, and the fact that Samara and Morinth were "interchangeable" suggest they never intended for them to be squad members in ME3.

I hope Samara at least makes a cameo if she's not a squaddie.  I mean, she promised to come if Shep called.

Come to think of it, if Shep doesn't get Liara back on the team (due to *ahem* romantic conflict) maybe Samara is the backup?

On my first play-through I was making the assumption that the choices you made for who does what were vital, and I spent several minutes deliberating on each decision.  Tali is a damn genius with tech, so even though I was sweating the whole time and my stomach knotted with worry, I sent her into the vents.  I knew my baby wouldn't let me down

Hearing Jacob say "practically a suicide mission" pretty much removed any and all possibility I'd send her in there. 

Haha, I hear you.  That certainly gave me pause.
I admit I did a little bit of metagaming in that instance -- I knew that getting everyone to survive was possible, I figured that I just needed to pick the right people for the job.  I decided to trust in her skills, and was proud of her when she came through.  It was a nice moment hearing Shep pat her on the back

I'd be happy with this set-up.
I'd be happier if Mordin and Wrex found their way into the mix, too.
Ah well, as long as I have my Tali and Garrus, than I'm good.

And RP-wise I'd trust her to do it far more than I'd trust Legion.  Nothing against Legion, but... well... I spent much of the 1st game with Tali watching my butt and geth trying to blow it up.

I'm still expecting the entire squad back for ME3 sans Zaeed.  But you make a good case with Samara.  Is there room for 2 asaris on the team?  Same could be said for krogans, and it seems likely that we're gonna get stuck with Grunt again while Wrex is uniting the krogan. 

I don't think the interchangeable thing is the deal breaker with Samara though.  Ashley and Kaidan are interchangeable, and they'll be back.  Just requires a little extra tweaking with dialogue, but Bioware knew what they were getting into.

If Bioware does it right, it could be one of the most emotionally charged disputes ever seen.

yeah but I just know that "cheating" on your LI from ME1 will have something in ME3.
