Rewriting or destroying the Geth, that's pretty much the most difficult decision in the entire game, I find.
Especially for Tali lovers I bet.

Tali is way to level headed to be completely pissed at you for rewriting

I wake up... see this... and I think "Well, it's another toe... okay"
then I think, "what!? who am I? why am I thinking this?"
then I remember that it's Tali, and everythings back to happy thoughts:blink:

Yeah, I spent a good 20 minutes staring at the dialogue box. In the end I destroyed them; I didn't want them getting rewritten and then mass effect 3 comes and they refuse to let the quarians take their home back

I'm pretty strongly paragon, and I always destroy them.

Has nothing to do with Tali or the quarians either. It's purely from a morale standpoint as well as risk vs reward scenario.

Firstly, brainwashing organics is worse then death. When you reprogram/brainwash something, you are effectively killing them, then you're insulting their previous choices by having whats left of them act in a manner they did not choose.

Secondly, honorable death as your enemy also makes rewriting them seem unjust. They choose to be your enemy, their choice should allow them to die for what they believe in. It goes with the brainwashing, but I don't want people hung up on the "killing them is bad too" clause.

It's also risky too.

It's not unthinkable that they won't keep the same frame of thought, it's also possible if they reconnect to the geth collective that their experiance of being rewritten couldn't negatively affect legion's geth and cause some dramatic side effects of a very negative nature.

So to me, destroying them is the only choice both logically and morally.

I love Tali. I want the Quarians to find a stable planetary home. I favour a peaceful solution since the Geth would likely tear the Quarians a new hole and hang them by it if war ensued. If the Heretics only account for ca. 5% of all Geth then yes, it will make the Geth stronger overall having them return, but the Get would remain formidable with or without them. Conclusion: I opted for virus "re-set" attack. Besides, the Geth as presented by Legion do not seem unreasonable - far from it. They actually seem more tolerant and enlightened than many of the organic races.

That's not what I'm worried about. But what if the combined forces of the Geth give the Quarians even more trouble in ME3? On my first playthrough, and on this one as well, I decided to rewrite them. But I might have to replay ME2 and destroy them instead when ME3 is out.
That wouldn't be a problem though, the combat system in ME2 is really enjoyable, I don't think it'll ever be as big of a problem to replay ME2 as it is for me to replay ME1. And all just to save myself for Tali, and to avoid Liara being pissed at me in ME3.

Still, I'm very curious to see how this rewrite/destroy decision will affect ME3.

It is an easy choice, when you talk a bit to Legion.

Then you see, that the Quarians were wrong.

Where does it say that the Heretics are only 5% of the total Geth amount? In my mind, I pictured a somewhat 50/50 of "normal" Geth and Heretics.
And yeah, Legion seems reasonable enough, but I'm still not sure if it's safe to assume, as Joker says, "That'll never bite us in the ass."

I thought it was tough because the choice seems morally ambiguous.  I mean, brainwashing usually isn't in the paragon playbook.  It seemed almost more correct to destroy the heretic:  it was their choice and they get to live with the consequences.  Legion even seemed to suggest that this was the right course of action.  Then again, there's the united geth vs. reapers issue.

Here's how I decided:  the last time I talked to Legion about it, he said his internal vote was 573 for rewrite, 571 for destroy.  Rewrite it was!

That mission was fascinating.  ME1 reveals basically nothing about the geth.

If the Quarians would want to, they could simply settle back to their homeworld, as long, as they would do it peacefully.

Quite possibly, though the Geth will need some sort of convincing pledge from the Quarians that they won't attack them on sight as they have had a habit of doing 100% of the every encounter where they thought they could defeat the Geth (the other times they've quickly run away).

Actually the vote has me concerned about Legion and the geth. They believe all intelligent life should self determinate...but decide to vote in favor of rewriting the heretics(even if they didn't reach full consensus) because it was convienent.

I think the geth need to chill.  The quarians are almost no threat to them.  If the geth packed up and got out of the system, they would have nothing whatsoever to fear from them.  The quarians would have their hands too full trying to resettle to think about looking for revenge.

Which kind of makes me wonder where the disconnect is, or if someone is leaving out part of the truth.

I'm not sure, if Geth can feel mistrust. They would probably defend themselfs, if the Quarians would attack again, but nothing more.

As I already said a few days ago: I would really like to bring the Quarians back to their homeworld and find a peacefully solution for them in ME3.
