They do, but images can lose quality when being stretched or shrinked... Like in KFD's case they got pixelated from being stretched...

You don't understand, Shepard! On the Flotilla I had to sleep in a bunk. On the previous Normandy I had to sleep in a sleeper pod. Being able to jump on a bed is so... decadent!

So what's the best aspect ratio so when it shrinks it's usually not stretched. Or do you gotta custom make backgrounds for each person?

I don't know, I usually just make custom ratios for those who ask

There are many different types of monitors out there, many with different aspect ratios. 

Most newer LCDs will be 16:9
There's also a ton of 16:10 ones out there still, though their popularity is fading.

Old LCDs will be 5:4
And most CRTs will be 4:3.

So, I suppose aiming for 16:9 and 16:10 will cover the most amount of people. KFD (KDF? KFC?  ) mentioned earlier he's using 1920 x 1200, which is 16:10

I have no idea what you are talking about Xtreme. Ashley is clearly my number two favourite romance after Tali. I will definintly play ME3 finishing Ashley's romance at least once, after I have played ME3 finishing Tali's romance.

Tali reprsents sefless love, so real Talimancer's don't hate anyone.
