Indeed! We'd have to get a pretty ****** government (say green party) to ever launch a first strike........if there's ever going to be a war (most definently not in forseeable future) it would be in self-defense

Russia would dearly love to have more clout on the international scene yet the cold, hard truth is that outside of UN veto powers and the occasional exclusive weapons or nuclear tech deals with certain developing nations, they don't have much to say outside the Slavic-speaking regions of Eastern Europe and some Central Asian states.

True that KFD but the key issue here is oil........I'm not saying really any nation would intervene for Canada's sake but they might because US power would dramatically increase if they got direct access to our oil and natural gas fields.....and Russia would be d*mned if they at least didn't make clear how much that would shift the balance of power and how unacceptable to them that would be......
