You raise some valid points KFD but what about this scenario?
Instead of direct war it's an attempted annexation
Like the movie "H2O"?
Ah! you've seen the movie as well!
That wasn't really annexation, if you watch the sequel The Trojan Horse Canada joins with the US via popular vote.........have you read the books "Ultimatum" and "Exxoneration" those should give better insight to what I'm suggesting
I have indeed watched that movie, yet not the sequel nor have I read the two books you mention.
I dunno. I think the US has demonstrated repeatedly over the past 60-70 years that while it certainly has spheres of interest, hegemony going on, and is willing to project its power - economically and militarily both - it doesn't seem particularly interested in creating a colonial empire. It's often cheaper and more popular to be able to pull some strings behind the scenes and/or lean on another faction than outright occupying them (unless one is determined to assimilate them fully in to one's own culture - even this may be easier to do gradually by exporting one's own culture to other territories via popular entertainment, fashion, and other peaceful means).
In short: While the US has the power to occupy all of the North American continent, I do not think it has either the desire nor the fortitude at present to engage in what would almost certainly end up being very costly long term engagements. If the public is squeamish about several thousands deaths and who knows how many tens of thousands of wounded from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, then I see little chance of them getting on board with outright imperialistic occupation of perceived friendly neighbouring states whom they could likely just as easily trade with to get what the wanted (more or less). Perhaps if it really appeared to be a case of "do or die" (ex. no more sufficient sources of water for personal use and agricultural needs and Canada had spare water but refused to sell it,) then that might be turned into a case for war by a deft and ruthless politician or cabal of such politicians.

Oh come on KFD surely there's a special someone that will make you happy in that way:D;)
I like to think that someday I'll once again happily be in a committed relationship, yet currently I am single. Sure, I have an ex-gf who's a friend these days whom I know I could share such activities with at the drop of a hat....but I desire something other than that.

I agree fully KFD and the ONLY time I see any of these scenarios happening is in a "do or die" situation.......
You should definently give those books a try they're a good read and well into your tastes I believe:D
Richard Rohmer is definently a good writer^_^

Which one of yours though? You already know my answer regarding the one with children and potential substance issues.
As for my sister....Well, that's her decision to make but you'll likely have to get through her giant Scottish husband first. And then my sister (she is just as fiercely independent as I am).
