Aye, I actually feel pangs of genuine guilt over that now that I know whom I can romance (I had no idea BioWare had decided to make Tali an LI in ME2). And yet my hormones finds Miranda, Samara and Tali very attractive. Damn caveman primate living in this body of mine! :pinched:^_^ ....Or perhaps it is my spirit inhabiting the body of that damn caveman primate? Hmm. Food for throught.

Hmmm....
Same result for both....?

Hmm, I have to be careful now, or I'll accidentally make both Ashley and Liara fall in love with me, which would lead to the catfight situation. And catfight situation means you have to pick one, can't drop both.

Which leads me to my next random question;
Who do you people leave behind on Virmire, Kaidan or Ashley, and for what reasons?

I must be the only person who left ash lol. I chose ash cuase quite frankly I didn't really like her racism on my ship. She was a nice girl and all, and I liked her well enough as a person but she was makin Tali feel unwelcome. Kaiden was much more open minded.

God, I hated that I couldn't simply tell Ashley to bugger off, after I told Liara that I wasn't interested ( before the cat fight ). But you get to stop the romance by being rude when Udina impeaches the Normandy, so I got her to finally back off.

No conflicting LIs for my perfect paragon Shepard, who only loves Tali.

Kaidan. Because, as annoying as Ashley was sometimes, I didn't want her to martyr herself to clear her grandfathers name. Also, Kaidan had migraines, so dying must have been a bit of a relief for him. :P

Kaiden is the Karth (KOTOR) of mass effect.

My first post here and it has to be about Tali.

Let me tell you my story. You see, I'm an interesting sort of Tali fan. I'll confess something: I really didn't care much for her in ME1. She was a fine character -- I liked just about all the ME1 squadmates -- but she didn't stick out. Her traits felt generic and tied to her history as a Quarian, and aside from her unique species it was difficult to ascertain her true personality. I didn't mind the find that you couldn't pursue her as a romantic interest. At that point, she seemed a bit too young to woo, and both Ashley and Liara caught my attention.

But then something fascinating happened during my Mass Effect 2 playthrough. My perspective completely changed. And what's interesting is that I can narrow down the point where I started to find Tali a really attractive LI option to a single moment of throwaway dialogue.

During Tali's mission, you eventually enter what once was her base of operations on the planet she and her Quarian task force had infiltrated. There's a completely optional voicemail of sorts you can listen in on if you investigate the equipment in the area. The recording apparently took place quite some time ago -- maybe when Tali and the rest of the universe thought Shepard was dead, or maybe after she learned he was alive. The details don't really matter, but what I liked was that one of my old ME1 squadmates actually *missed me.* And she brought Shepard up in the course of a dialogue that had nothing whatsoever to do with him. He just entered her thoughts.

...I thought that was profoundly sweet, and quite possibly one of my favorite moments in the game, and even more emotionally uplifting than all the hugs and the makeout sessions and the cute flirtations.

At that point, Ashley, my LI in ME1, had treated me like dirt. It was a perfectly fine plot development and I understood why Bioware turned up the romantic tension by making Ashley and Shepard completely unable to communicate their respective positions. They both messed up, and they both looked like fools, but it didn't change the fact that I felt profoundly saddened by Ashley's betrayal. It sounded as if she had genuinely moved on, and that those two years had led her to develop a life independent of Shepard. I understood her motives. And I still like Ashley plenty as a character. But it left me feeling...lonely. And terrible for my poor Shepard, who really didn't want to join Cerberus in the first place.

Ashley's hostility and lack of interest came somewhat out of left field but Liara's was straight out of the ballpark. In ME1 she was sweet, kind, understanding, thoroughly interested in being friendly (or more) with Shepard. In ME2 she's turned into someone barely recognizable. And like Ashley, she didn't seem much excited by Shepard's presence. There was a brief moment of recognition, and then she went right back into her newfound badass mode, but like with Ashley the scenes felt sterile. There was no energy...no connection. The irony was it felt as if both Ashley and Liara had died (not Shepard), and they'd been replaced by unrecognizable fragments of their former selves.

Then there's Garrus. I love that Turian to death, and eventually Shepard seemed able to break through and reconnect with him. But at first, I was honestly surprised at how devoid of emotion the reunion was. There was a great plot-related explanation for this (Garrus had a crappy time on Omega, he became a different person, he was jaded through his failed attempts at leadership.) While the spark of friendship was still there -- and that was more than I could say for Ashley or Liara -- my paragon Shepard had taught Garrus to be a kinder, less impulsive and more understanding being, and all those lessons seemed to have no impact on Garrus' life trajectory. It wasn't until a peaceful resolution to his loyalty mission that I felt things really went "back to normal" between us. Until then -- as of when I embarked on Tali's recruitment mission -- Garrus seemed like a shadow of his former self, too, and an emotional resonance just seemed to be missing.

So back when I'm about to recruit Tali, I'm somewhat devastated over my ME1 squadmates. Liara and Ashley feel like lost causes. Garrus is technically on my team, but he doesn't seem quite himself. I hadn't yet run into Wrex on the Krogan homeworld; at that point I was likely to assume Wrex wasn't appearing in ME2 at all. It just felt very desolate. As if Shepard was all alone in his new Cerberus world with only Joker and the Doctor to remind him of old times.

...And then I heard that sweet little line in Tali's recording.
Finally! Someone appreciated Shepard! Someone *cared* about him! Someone remembered him, and actually wished he was present in her life!
From that moment on, initial impressions of Tali be damned, I made it my mission to woo that Quarian straight to my personal quarters. Absolutely nothing would stop me.

So, yeah; here's hoping we can hear another unexpected recording from Tali before recruiting her in ME3.

I know I'm not the first, but, let me Welcome you to the Forums none the less my Fellow Tali-mancer. I think many of us can relate to your experience. I know my own very much mirrored yours. When I first got to know Tali, I instantly had a soft spot for her, and found her to be the most engaging character in ME1 bar none. However, it was obvious the Story was trying to paint her as the 'Kid Sister' character, so I tried to bury my attraction and move on. Not long after, I was introduced to the Tali Love Thread on the Original ME Forums and the talk going around that not only had she been meant to be a Love Interest in ME1, but that her growing popularity was moving her towards being a LI in ME2. So, when ME2 released, I went in hoping that she would be but trying to not get my hopes up as I figured that even if she was a LI, it would be very Platonic. Much to my Joy, that was not the case.

From the Moment you encounter her on Freedom's Progress, there is a connection, Electricity, between John Shepard and Tali. The quiver in her voice as she exclaims: "You're...Alive?!", and then, despite all the Horrors she's just had to witness via the Death of Prata and his team, to hear the sincere desire in her voice to go with Shepard when asked after Veetor's rescue pulled my Heart Strings and I knew this would become something special. And, of Course, as you pointed out, Tali's recording on Haestrom conviced me beyond a shadow of a doubt that not only was Tali perhapes the one person who had never really moved on with her Life in regards to Shepard, but that out of all the women who had loved him, she was the only one who would never Love anyone else. So, long story short, it's awesome that you now share something we all do. Welcome to the Tali_Love Family.

Seconded.
I actually feel rather silly now for not having recognized Tali's qualities in ME1. I barely ever took her with me as I spent most time with Garrus (still my favorite male cast member, though he does lack a lot of his former spark in ME2)  and Ashley, my then-LI. ME2 was like a revelation for my Shepard, I admired Tali from the first scene and it gradually became true, deep love. The best part is, it didn't even come to my mind she could actually be LI in ME2 until Kelly told me. It felt like having my eyes opened, and from that time on, nothing could stand between us...

I would also like to object sharply to the comparison between us, Tali's Army, and the Reaper fleet. With their help, the least horrible thing that could happen to her would be indoctrination, and I would give my (Shepard's) life to prevent that from happening.

We will not stop until Tali is in ME3. We will win this war. And we won't sacrifice the soul of our species to do so!

Besides, this entire thread seems rather paragon-heavy to me, so reapers are off limits ;)

Keelah se'lai, friends.

its off topic
but ya haha i left kaiden the first time in 07 cause ashley was my relation ship but after playing me2 im sooooo nuking her ass on virmir this playthrough
and i dint kno you couldnt woo em both at the same time lol they cat fight each other???
awesome haha:P

They confront you on the Normandy, and try to make you choose. Then you get a Renegade option, "Catfight!".
Shepard will basically ask "Can't I have you both?", which will cause Ashley to leave, and Liara to... thank you for "choosing" her. Pretty hilarious, really.

bahahah i may just do that on this playthrough ive never seen that hahaha
so either way you get to be with liara? cause shes my LI in me1
if only you could woo Tali..... :crying:
id toss em both off a cliff just to have tali be my LI in me1 :P

Another random thought of mine - It's possible to look into that Quarian's helmet on Illium, if you stand behind her and play around with the camera. Apart from the color and the bad texture, she seems quite human-like. Doesn't necessarily mean that it's any indication of what BioWare actually want them to look like, but who knows.

Unfortunately it's impossible to take a look into Tali's helmet.

I had an idea earlier today that I thought was gold, money in the bank, for EA/Bioware, and us. I thought EA/BW could make a SE ME3 game based on your favorite character and have that character share the cover with Shepard.

Now to make it a SE ME3 you would pay a little more (listen up, more $$ EA), but for that $$ you would receive additional equipment for that character.

For example, we would all get the Tali SE ME3 (of course) and would receive a special armor/outfit for her as well as a custom weapon (shotgun or pistol). If you don't want Tali (shocker I know) you could buy the Miranda, Mordin, Grunt, etc.... SE ME3 and have them share the cover with Shep and also get a custom weapon and armor/outfit for them.

This way EA/BW could make additional $$$, we get Tali (or another character), and EA/BW looks good bec they didn't cave to the Talimancers. Most Talimancers think Tali should be on the cover of ME3 anyway, no ifs, ands or buts and I agree.

However, I think that's part of the pr problem we have created for Tali. In our zeal we sometimes forget about the other characters and I don't want to push EA/BW into a corner. I think this option would be a huge win for EA/BW.

I mean would anyone get the regular game at $59.99, I think most ME fans would spend $79.99 or $89.99 for a chance to customize their favorite character whether it is Tali or someone else...... Hell I'd pre-order today to get the Tali SE ME3. Would you, or do think it's a dumb idea?

Beautiful! They go quite well with Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" that I was just listening to. Thank you kindly.

Splendid pics...
And 1812 Overture - great taste, pal.

As for Virmire, I usually left behind Kaidan, mainly because I was in an ill-considered relationship with Ash at the time. I suppose dying can set the priorities straight for a man...

Sounds like a DLC thing to me, not a question of different game editions.
And I'd get the Tali DLC, if there's a few lines of dialogue and perhaps a Tali specific sidequest or two.
