Does "Roh Jin" look antiquated by current leading anime standards?
Did you mean Jin-Roh : The Wolf Brigade?
Yep.
Ahh.
Then I don't' think that whether it'll look antiquated or not would really matter. One of the better animes out there with a very solid story especially if one is looking for something to watch that has a more mature slant then your average anime.
Hooray for brainwashed stormtroopers, pre-pubescent suicide bombers and a betrayal of ones heart to duty.

Hm. I'm not convinced. I desire both looks and brains in women. The same goes for animations and games to an extent. However, with animes in particular, since it is an entirely visual medium where I have no direct interaction with it, looks matter a lot to me.

When I talk about "realism" I'm talking about character design that more closely approximates "real people." So while the CGI for Advent Children is impressive, I wouldn't call it "realistic." And I'm with you on the plot. However, it DID have one of my fave anime VA's in it, Maaya Sakamoto (Aerith).The_KFD_Case wrote...
Well, the most realistic looking anime I've watched to date is "Final Fantasy XII Advent Children", however the plot borders on being nonsensical, although having played FF XII the game back in the day it was fairly easy to recognize all the nods to the fans.
Hm. How about "Sky Blue"?

Can't entirely agree with you there. I do understand the need or want for better visuals, but even with the capability of today's computers one can come up with mind blowing visuals, if the story of any given flick is weak, then even the best visuals can't keep said flick's head above water.
The same cannot be said of flicks with good writing, direction and of course story to back it up. Of course having great visuals help but, its like watching say, pulp fiction vs Transformers.
Not all anime, are filled with c-cup teens giving fanservice and plot / story (what story?!) gets hogtied backstage, while some can be rather thought provoking. Same can be said of most visual entertainment we see today. Most are junk, only fit for consumption of those who don't know better, but just because TV / Hollywood has a penchant of putting out crap by the truckload does not mean every movie out there is junk.

You don't have to agree. When it comes to movies and animations I am easily entertained depending on what, if any, expectations I have of a given movie or animation preceeding my actually watching it. Great eye candy will not make up for a ****** poor story on its own, that I can agree with you on, yet it is enough to make a show with an otherwise thin plot enjoyable to me nonetheless. Conversely ****** poor visuals in a medium that is hand drawn and/or computer generated and thus generally not a direct mirror image real-life visuals, irrespective of how great the plot may be, is going to be in for a bumpy ride in my book. Such ventures will have to meet certain standards in terms of visual quality before I'm inclined to spend time and money on them.
