When she died I was prepared to accept it for ME3, now I'm not so sure. All this Tali talk...I miss her so much! </3

You can save Tali.
As long as you have everyone loyal, all you need to do when doing the final mission is to have Garrus lead the first strike team and Tali goes into the tunnel. Then have Samara hold the biotic field, Mirranda lead the distraction team. Lastly have Mirranda and Tali together for the final confrontation. You can sub Mirranda out but she has some nice choice words for The Illusive Man if you bring her along. Also, having Tali along ...well...lets just say saving her from the fall = epic moment.

Weirdly enough I imported like my 3rd playthrough to ME2 (for no reason except that it was fresher in my mind). But with ME2 I decided I'd try my best the first time. Well, only two people died. Tali and Zaeed. With Zaeed it was almost appropriate that he die, but Tali dying felt like one of those things that isn't supposed to happen.

How did you lose them both.

Every time I bring Miranda with me, I end up saving her.

Quite annoying. The game should force check the LI as the person you save for dramatic purposes.

My second playthru is my 'canon' story because I wanted to save everyone.   My first play thru I lost Thane, samara, garrus, legion, and jack.  It was my for fun but I did everything I could to save tali.  WHICH I DID Image IPB

I fully expect her back as a squaddie and LI, as I do all the romanceable squaddies from both games.  Like you said, everybody can die, including Shepard, and there's no way they're writing off all of these carefully-crafted characters just because some people are so horrible that they got their entire crew (including themselves) killed.  I have no hard evidence, but I expect that the vast majority of ME2 players saved all or almost all of their companions.  It would be a slap in the face to those people to ditch these great characters whose trust they spent so much time gaining, just because a halfwit minority were too stupid to upgrade the Normandy or do any loyalty missions.

ME2 was primarily about building a team, and I don't think they'll waste all that effort just to have to create a whole new stable of recruitable characters for ME3.  Bioware obviously loves all the squaddies they created:  just look at the painstaking character design and facial expressions the art teams did, and the nuanced and varied characterizations of the writing team and voice actors.  If some fool was wretched enough to get Tali killed, well, I think his punishment will be to be Tali-less in ME3 while the rest of us are helping her save the Quarian race before heading back up to the loft for some quality time.

haha well said.
now all we can do is just hope bioware is like that being we dont work for them we really cant know there intentions for me3 cause like me2 im sure some people were upset that ash was out of the picture. while i didnt mind in the slightest cause ash is a mean alliance obbsesed biatch some people really liked her
and just to throw it out there for all you ash fans im doing another playthrough of me1 and im sooooo nuking her ass on virmire :P

Thats alot of tali content to miss out on for ME3 simply to keep your playthrough solid.

I lost garrus my first time, if it was anyone besides garrus or tali i'd carry it over...but they're my favorite 2 people. Theyre a huge part of why I play the game.

That is why I use my first playthrough as a lets have fun/explore. My second is "4 realz yo."

I know in some ways i wonder if they ment Tali to be the main LI in ME2 since there are so many hints that she does like Shep in that way.

Tali went in the vents, yeah I realize Legion could have gone but I just wanted to show her I believed in her (I HAVE NEVER SAID ANYTHING MORE GEEKY IN MY LIFE). And then I chose Samara to lead the other team. She wasn't the best fighter but I thought she'd make a good Leader (Tragically my initial choice was Garrus but I decided to choose Samara because I didn't wanna seem like I only trusted the people I was more familiar with, my squad from ME1) Miranda said "Great choice Shepard" Which is of course, not true, because Tali ended up taking a rocket to the face. : \\ This death bothered me a lot more than when Zaeed died needless to say. First off he's tough as hell, so I put him as the guy in charge of the other team. He took a shot to the stomach. I don't get it frankly, you mean to tell me he can't hold off a couple of Collectors?

I don't agree my choices should have resulted in both their deaths.

I used Legion in the tunnel, Garrus led both secondary teams, Samara held the barrier (although I imagine Jack would work as well) and Jacob led the crew back to the Normandy.  Everyone lived.

I'm going to have to do it again and bring Miranda, I didn't know she had special dialogue!  That's exciting.

Make sure to try to blow up the base dialogue at every turn, otherwise it won't trigger.

and yes Jack works as well.

@cutt, hah yeah I picked samara to lead my first time through, and i sent garrus in....he was SOL either way.

Yeah, I can't stand her racism.  I really regret leaving Kaidan behind on Virmire.  But I think the reason Ash/Kaidan and Liara had cameo roles in ME2 was to guarantee their survival for ME3.  At least, that's the internet consensus, and it makes a whole lot of sense.

Anyway, it's crazy late here in New England, so I should probably hit the sack.

I felt it was suppose to be Miranda (same reason why I thought it was Ashley in ME1, more so now with the treatement of Ash/Liara in ME2) and Tali.

Both have their points. Miranda is there from the start and starts off all cold and 'warms' up to you. Even the way you accept and reject her adds to it. Tali too, While Tali is built around the premise you might have liked her too in ME1, turns out she did too. Boy did she like you a lot.

I did not lose tali because I upgraded everything etc
Tali went in the vents. Garrus led the team. I sent mordin back with the crew. I picked tali on my squad samara as the sheild miranda as a team leader. Then I had Tali and garrus on my squad miranda leading the other. I saved tali from falling the she saved me in turn then we got happy fun time in my quarters Image IPB

It's just cheap to go back and redo things so that "everyone can live." It's a very typical videogame ending. Honestly I like an ending with 1 or 2 deaths more than a NO ONE LEFT BEHIND ending. The sight of the coffins...Reminding you of what you lost... It's a little more realistic that not everyone is gonna make it. Of course, you did say "Tali" in particular. And yeah, like I said before, I'm having a hard time taking my own advice on this matter. It is awfully dramatic that she die, but I don't like the way her death was handled so I may decide to ignore this and go on to ME3 with her alive after all.

Never listen to Miranda.  First she says Samara is a great choice for leader.  LIES!!!  Then she says any biotic can hold the barrier.  LIES!!!

See but when you start actually purposefully killing some of your squad it cheapens your playthrough even more IMO...I don't wanna craft my ending, I just wanted it to turn out right and it didn't. In life you gotta suck it up and keep going I was hoping to do the same here. Realistically I did very well to go to the Collector base, rescue all my missing crew, destroy the base and the human reaper, and escape the base with only two lives lost. It's just that...I can't really get over losing Tali. It makes me not wanna keep playing after the game is over, which I think is a really cool idea and something I'm glad they did! But hell, it's just not the same going down the Engineering and not seeing her there.

I killed kaiden in ME1 because he reminded me of Karth in KOTOR and I really hated him... I didn't want to deal with that in ME2... Then I find out how much of a b**** Ash is in ME2...
