You can
Put thane in the vents, he dies 100% of the time
Have Grunt lead the 2nd team, he dies 100% of the time
you can even kill people on purpose by not upgrading your ship. So long as you know the kill order.
No armor upgrade=jack dies, every time
No shield upgrade=Tali dies, then legion, then Thane, then I don't know, but someone else as you don't have to recruit specific people and people with you to kill the drone don't die.
No weapons=Thane dies, or Garrus dies.

Pick a bad biotic, the 2nd person on your squad dies

Send someone without loyalty to escort, they die

You can, if you want, specifically kill off almost your entire team and keep the people you want alive.

You guys make me struggle so badly in keeping Tali dead...
When she died I was prepared to accept it for ME3, now I'm not so sure. All this Tali talk...I miss her so much! </3

You can save Tali.
As long as you have everyone loyal, all you need to do when doing the final mission is to have Garrus lead the first strike team and Tali goes into the tunnel. Then have Samara hold the biotic field, Mirranda lead the distraction team. Lastly have Mirranda and Tali together for the final confrontation. You can sub Mirranda out but she has some nice choice words for The Illusive Man if you bring her along. Also, having Tali along ...well...lets just say saving her from the fall = epic moment.

I used Legion in the tunnel, Garrus led both secondary teams, Samara held the barrier (although I imagine Jack would work as well) and Jacob led the crew back to the Normandy.  Everyone lived.

I'm going to have to do it again and bring Miranda, I didn't know she had special dialogue!  That's exciting.

Ya, I don't know, I always had Tali falling off the ledge, and every time, its just one of those moments that define the game, you know. I swear that if I could see her face, it would have an expression that says "I knew it would be you, you'd never let me down." when you catch her and pull her back up.
As for Mirranda, trust me, while I still think of her as the unfortunate "bimbo" to fill in for the "easy quickie" romance choice, what she said and how she said it, gained some respect from my Shepard.

Which is why I do hope that Bioware not only bring Tali back, but everyone from the ME2 cast (including Kaiden / Ashley / Liarra) because come ME3, it would be interesting to see how all your choices from ME1 to ME3 plays out. That would indeed by epic in terms of RPG gameplay and I believe no other company / game franchise has done before.

It's just cheap to go back and redo things so that "everyone can live." It's a very typical videogame ending. Honestly I like an ending with 1 or 2 deaths more than a NO ONE LEFT BEHIND ending. The sight of the coffins...Reminding you of what you lost... It's a little more realistic that not everyone is gonna make it. Of course, you did say "Tali" in particular. And yeah, like I said before, I'm having a hard time taking my own advice on this matter. It is awfully dramatic that she die, but I don't like the way her death was handled so I may decide to ignore this and go on to ME3 with her alive after all.

I killed kaiden in ME1 because he reminded me of Karth in KOTOR and I really hated him... I didn't want to deal with that in ME2... Then I find out how much of a b**** Ash is in ME2...

You actually can... send a non tech to do a techs work they die all the time.

oh well i actually made sure everyone did job appropriate stuff and they still died

I didn't get that at all from her.  If you take her to Illium she remarks about what an amazing place the Asari have made, and that humans could learn a lot from them.

I actually like her character.  She is an icy Cerberus business woman at first, but she warms up a lot.  Her first dialogue on the station is pretty cold.  Her first one on the Normandy is businesslike but amiable, and the one after that is friendly.  After you do her loyalty quest she really opens up and shows her feelings.  If you take her on the Collector ship she seems very betrayed when EDI tells you about the faked signal, and by the end it is obvious that her loyalties would lie with you rather than TIM.  I think she develops very well as a character.
