I had to replay the game all over again using the character i originally beat it with to reach 60.

I have no Shepard to import.

Then you have a loooooong road ahead of you if you want a level 60 character.

I don't think its possible to get to 60 in one playthrough.  I was under the impression that level capped at 50 the first time through.  So in that regards, new game plus is a necessity.

And while you don't have to kill Maws on foot, you do get 1/3 exp for kills in the Mako, so it helps to kill Collossuses and pretty much everything else on foot when possible.  You can whittle their health down in the Mako, but the kill shot should come from on foot.
