I feel like talking about Tali. Just talking about her.



Before the game came out, I was certain I was going to romance Miranda. Even if Tali was an option, which I really wanted, I still figured Miranda would be my LI. She was everything I "normally" want. I prefer buxom brunette women with foreign accents, and Miranda seemed tailor-made for a gamer like me with my particular tastes. I even prefer more feisty and stubborn girls like her. Morrigan was a dream come true for me in Dragon Age. So, Miranda, right?



I just don't know how Bioware did it, but the second I heard Tali's voice message in the game say "I wish my friends could see this... I wish Shepard was here..." I forgot all about Miranda. The nuance in her voice, the longing and sorrow, the intimacy in such a derelict environment... and it just built from there.



Then Kelly blew my mind when she told me Tali's body language indicated she wanted something more... and sure enough, she was right. Tali had grown to be my favorite character in ME1 after five playthroughs (going from least liked to most), and the kinship I felt with her just felt so natural. Unlike all the other girls, she's the one that kick-started the romance. Unlike the others, getting me was her dream, and making her happy and making her feel loved just made ME feel happy and loved.



Then, of course, there was those sacrifices. The health risks, the baggage I had with Ashley, the mission... every other relationship would be "easier". Tali was so utterly selfless about it. She encouraged you to pursue other girls that would be "easier" to please you. She didn't care if she herself was unhappy so long as you were happy.



And that just made my heart soar. Damn the difficulties, I'd do whatever it took to give that girl the man she deserved. Unlike the others, who felt like prizes, who felt even "beneath" me, Tali made me feel less than complete. She said I deserved better when I kept thinking she's the one who deserved better. Whatever the cost, I wanted to make it work.



And we did. And it's not perfect. And that's wonderful. A love with such dire risks, such dangerous consequences, and yet so strong and pure... I've NEVER seen a game pull that off so well, or create a love interest with such raw heart, strength, courage, and selfless passion.



... and you never even see her face. It's just mind-blowing to me. She's unreal, perfect, and she's a gas-mask wearing, three fingered, chicken-legged alien. And I love every inch of her.



Bioware, seriously, I can't thank you enough for a character like her.

Knowing the reapers bear resemblance to the reaper cuttlefish makes me laugh at them

when my older brother finished ME2 for the first time he said. "Hand me some tartar sauce, we're fighting fish next game."
