I agree with Flaargman in his agreeing with me, thus I agree with myself, which makes sense, and no one can disagree that agreeing with oneself is a logical and agreeable thing to do.
Wait, what?
Anyway, when you think about it, the relationship between Tali and Shepard is very special and sweet because it was built upon some negativity; that Tali loved Shepard for so long, yet wouldn't dare act on her feelings because she felt she never had a shot.
That thought is very tragic, and there's a good chance she's felt some depression (maybe even cried to herself a few times?) during ME1. Her "Right, right... of course not. Why would you?" line really says a great deal about how hopeless she felt having a relationship with Shepard was. The end result of her and Shepard being together is made just more beautiful, knowing the negativity that it overcame.
It's like... when you drink something bitter, and then you have something sweet afterwards. It just tastes a little sweeter.
Hmm, I like it. And thanks for taking the bullet for me so I can add this to the reasons the Tali/Shep romance is awesome, without having to hear the heartbreaking words.

I do find the whole ME1 relationship hard to explain though. Since all indications are, it should've started then, but Bioware just didn't give us the option. Even if Tali was too nervous to make a move, my Shepard would have damn well tried if given the choice.
You kind of just have to explain it with Shepard being as scared to reveal his feelings as Tali, which is kind of sweet in its own way, if a little odd, given their roles.
