good, I was able to earn Tali some more respect earlier in a thread... I saved it from derping, and such, and I backed off trolls single handedly attacking the thread, and regained some of the respect of the TaliNation

There is currently a thread started about the "Tali thread phenomenon", why it is so long. Please believe me...I'm just very curious. I've been at this internet thingie a long time, and a member of lots of boards...and until now, I think about 160 pages was the longest I've seen. What is is about Tali'Zorah that would inspire this kind of devotion? I mean no disrespect here. I am sincerely curious and eagerly await any serious replies in that thread.

There are numerous reasons.  The main one being is that her personality is extremely well received by pretty much everyone.  She's caring, and extremely nice to everyone that deserves kindness, yet is still strong enough to stand up for herself when the time comes.  She's a strong independent person, yet adorably melts around Shepard.  She's also completely selfless.

She comes from a situation where it would be perfectly understandable for her to take her frustrations out on the people around her.  Her people, and her individually, are treated like second class citizens and discriminated against because of acts of their ancestors.  They live with hardships that no one else has to live with their immune systems, yet she is just as bubbly and sweet as anyone else in the galaxy.  You can see the effects that the situation has had on her, she pretty much thinks its impossible for Shepard to ever have feelings for her, despite how fantastic of a person she is.  She doesn't let it show, but it does seem like she thinks less of herself because of the constant hate towards her and her people. 

We never get to see her face, but that just lets the player focus more on her personality.  It also doesn't hurt that the concrete stuff with her body and voice are very attractive as well. 

You can't underestimate the familiarity factor as well.  Garrus's popularity spiked as well with him returning in ME2. 

She's just a very attractive character overall, physically and personality wise.  I can see where it would be surprising at first that people would pick an alien who's face you can't see over a perfect human, or others, but I think most people would love to find someone like Tali in real life.  I was surprised at first as well to see how many fans she has, but she just has so many things that people love about her. 

Phil hit the nail on the head with this one but he forgot to add the factors of Tali's romance with a male Shep.  It just feel very natural and realistic.  You can understand why they would fall in love with each other.  Everything she says seems like it came out of the girl next doors mouth and more than anyone other then Liara you just know Tali will be there for you no matter what.  Mystery does play a big factor in this as well.  Not know what she looks like is a very big turn on because you have built up such a strong personal connection with her.  Almost like meeting someone online or over the phone first and just talking until you finally get to meet them in person.  Your connection feels deeper because it is not totally based on physical attraction.  Tali has the personality of a woman you would marry and live your life out with.

After two years, Tali sees you, and you ask her to come with you, and she really stresses that she wants to (but unfortunately, can't, because of her own mission). And she really has a reason to despite Cerberus.

Borrowing from Shepard's "If I'm going to walk into hell" line with Garrus; Tali sees Shepard standing in hell, he asks her to join him, and she's willing to jump in just because it's Shepard there, asking her to.

Shepard deserves that kind of blind trust; it's unfortunate so few are willing to give it to him.

We here prefer civil relations with other support threads and forum in general.
Just doesn't work out that way...

Not to attack Liara, but her actions in ME2 put her behind Tali on the always being there for you scale.  Sergio detailed it well on this page already, but Tali has all the reason in the world to not trust Cerberus, and she's still willing to go into hell with the likelihood of dying because of how much she trusts Shepard. 

I know Liara saved your body from the collectors, but is there really any chance that Tali would have refused to help you there if given the opportunity?  The shadow broker will always be there, Shepard needs Liara's help now.  Liara's refusal to be with you against the collectors is a huge strike against her in my book.
