We all know that the Protheans were the only space faring race in its time but is it just coincidence or were they a race of genocidal conquerors? Always wondered.

Only Prothean ruins survive. Likely galaxy had greater diversity. However, little trace of other races remain after Reaper purge.

Thought as much.  You'd think though there was a little evidence of other races instead of only prothean ones.

I assumed that they were the only race advanced enough to utilize Mass Effect
technology. They didn't seem overly genocidal; after all they did leave data
caches for many of the species that rose to prominence after them.

I think that the protheans were just the first to master space flight, they did find humans when they were primitive, and maybe they also found the asari, salarians, turians and more.

They just studied humans though, didnt try to kill them.

Didn't know that.  I guess the Krogan cured of the Genophage will have to do.

Perhaps...Maybe it served a dual purpose: helping survivors possibly rebuild if necessary & leaving technologies for the next species in the cycle if they are unable to survive.
