I very much hope you're right.
Bio managed to exceed my expectations with ME2, I hope they can do that again with ME3.
It just sucks that ME3 will supposedly be the last we see of Shep.

Well, now that I comforted you at first, let me be a downer

ME2 specifically focuses on the characters, they were basicall the whole story.  That is unlikely to be as true in ME3.  The plot was very weak in ME2 to focus on the characters, whereas there is much more stuff to focus on besides them in ME3.  There will also be more characters to focus on.  I could see ME3 being Shepard vs the reapers featuring some interchangeable squad mates that follow you.

I certainly hope it doesn't end up like that.  I care more about seeing Tali's story developed than anything else.  I want the whole romance arc in general elaborated on, but I'm less sure about that than the characters being back in general.

Strong character-driven storylines have always been a big part of Bioware's greatness.
They would be fools to stray too far from what they do best.

Well, to elaborate, I'm not saying that the characters won't matter at all, simply that I think there could be too many, and too much going on for our favorite character to get the attention that she deserves.  There's likely to be what, 15 squad mates in ME3?  They aren't going to just make Tali more important than the rest of them (even though they should,) Jacob and Kaidan will still get just as much dialogue and involvement.  I just don't see how we can get more than 5 different conversations between the characters.

That said, if they can pull it off to the extent of ME2, and make the dialogue with Tali as good, and make the romance arc on top of that excellent, I'll be just fine.
