The American government is flawed in so many ways.  Things like the Senate - designed as a compromise to give little groups of people the same influence as large groups - still exist hundreds of years after they stopped being needed.

In the beginning the US Government was created to govern the independant colonies while you guys twiddled your thumbs and saw whether you liked playing independant or not. Eventually you realized you really liked being independent and further strengthened that government and your international relations. Then later you tried your hand at being a superpower and found that to be rather fun (if harder). Now you have a government that wants to try it's hand at being socialist while dealing with a major economic recession.

The American government is flawed in so many ways.  Things like the Senate - designed as a compromise to give little groups of people the same influence as large groups - still exist hundreds of years after they stopped being needed. 

Thats good in a republic when it gives a minority more say in government, but not like it is now where the "minorty groups" are corporations.
