Hey I got in an argument with a freind about the "true canon" romance in ME.

To be completely honest, Kaiden or Ashley seem like the more intended romance. You could romance them in the beginning, you have to be lonely in the second game, then they come back. Makes for a good story...

Actually, that's nonsense, there is no "cannon" romance plot! This is an RPG and we are free to choose.

Liara's ME1 romance was so abrupt it snuck up on me, before I knew it she wanted to get into my pants

The Talimance builds throughout ME1 and ME2, its really sweet and believable

When she says the whole it was worth it thing. I heard everyone else goes back to the previous convo before the love scene

Yes, because even though you can keep playing after the final mission the galaxy is reset, so everyone in it thinks that you are still about to go on the final mission.

technecally tali would be cannon, because she's the only one that Bioware comes flat out and says She Likes you (from kelly)

I thought the canon was that their is no romance in the canon, because with a romance there are too many variations for there to be a canon romance

The problem with declaring which romance is canon is that every fan group can come up with reasons for their romance to be canon. The simple fact is that there is no canon.

If he's bringing up the "she can die" thing ask him if his squad for ME3 will be Liara and no one else
And if the plot lines about the genophage and Quarian Homeworld will just be forgotten

yep while i was writing my thing i had this in the back of my mind also, their is no canon romance, because its Your shepard...
