After playing multiple ME1 and 2 runs covering all the LIs I want save games for, I have to say that Tali's character has a definite unfair advantage.
Think about it, one of the questions that keep croping up of why Tali so popular is how someone without a face could garner such a following and fans.
Liz, Tali's VA, obviously played a huge part with her ability to put emotion, believable emotion into Tali's voice. Liz definitely outshoned Mirranda' VA in that department. That's the thng about Miranda's romance that bugged me and I am sure for many others, is that once you get past the physical aspect (boobs and butt) that seems to be Miranda's point of attraction her character is pretty dispassionate.
Its best that I mention the ME1 LIs now and say that I am extremely disappointed with what the writers have done to both Ashley and Liarra. They deserved better. But since Bioware had decided to give all three really bad emotional and psychological baggage, bad enough that they'll give you damn good reasons to let them go and walk the path they have choosen for themselves.
Now back to ME2. Tali's only real rival in ME2 is Jack and that is only because of another example of superb writing and voice acting.
Bioware / EA should seriously rethink its trend towards 'big name' stars and concentrate on getting actors who can get into the role the play and we'll, act.
Whether by luck or intent, Liz playing Tali really brought a faceless character to life and gave that character emotions that we the players picked up on and from my perspective made her more 'alive' then the other LIs. Which I believe is why especially those who have made repeated runs of the game eventually will fal for her character and become Talimancers.

I agree completely. I found it odd, actually, that the difference in "fandom" with Tali v.s the other LI (especially ME1 LI's) wasn't far greater. It's just perception and opinion, but she does have an advantage that you describe.

If Bioware didn't do such a good job with those characters in ME1, then ME2 would be unforgiveable, but I feel a sense of hope around the fans of the ME1 LI's that "got the shaft" that ME3 will deliver. That's why I'm lowering expectations. We have this huge thread and some of us shove it in people's faces, why wouldn't they hold a grudge? It would seem like we're tryin to steal the spotlight.

All LI's will be downgraded most likely, Tali in ME2 will be the best (not as great as Tali from ME1-2-3 as a whole, obviously) but the ME1 LI's deserve something grand in ME3.
