I like him.  He's neck and neck with Garrus for head bro.  Although Garrus probably beats him out due to better relationships with the rest of the crew.  Still, he's either top 5 or right there for me.

I don't understand why people don't like Jacob though, he was the better version of Kaidan after all

Thats not saying much though, everyone hated Kaidan.  Being a better version of him doesn't guarantee anyone liking him.  If anything, the moral compass character always ends up being one of the more generic and unliked characters.

He also loses points because hes a human, which takes away bonus points that other members get (seriously, has anyone looked at how generically boring Grunt is?)  And he loses points for some for being in Cerberus, even those his reasons are pretty good.  The simple reason is there just isn't much outstanding about him.  Even to me, someone who likes him, he's still behind 4 or 5 others who stand out more. 

I liked him because of the normalcy of the relationship.  It felt like talking to a normal person, which is a nice change of pace after some of the others.  He just seemed to me like one of the people that would actually be a good friend.

I like him, but there's not a lot of reason to have him in the party.  Other people do biotics better.  Other people do shotguns better.  Other people actually have hips.

On another note, Jacob will be in ME3, why can't we just, live with him? Tell him to not make eye contact and we won't talk and he can shoot stuff during cut scenes?

So he doesn't care to remember Tali's name and disrespected her heritage because of his wounded pride. Cut him some slack. Or not.

Well the squad mate argument doesn't mean much to me.  I always have Tali, and then most of the other time its someone's loyalty mission so I have to take them.  Unfair to judge by the few missions where I have a choice

You are right about there not being much reason to use him though, that just goes back to him not having any outstanding characteristics.
