I can relate to that feeling. I do not currently own any firearms (many European nations have extremely strict gun laws), yet a few years back when I lived in Scotland there was a break-in in my apartment while I was away on vacation. No further break-ins occured after that while I still lived there, but I did sleep with a hammer under my bed for the next six months and I was prepared to go after a potential thief's hands or head if need be. Not feeling safe in one's home is the antithesis of what "home" means to many people (even if security is often a matter of "feel good" psychology as our homes are often quite easy to break in to).

Do you know that you can be charged for assault if you attack the thief?

Agreed, though I would change "A man's" to "A person's". Still, sometimes in order to truly know our limitations we have to thoroughly push our preconceived boundaries...only to find that we may actually have untapped reserves we didn't realise existed within us. Other times our initial preconceptions turn out to be correct.

Hmm...let's see...Since my male Shepard didn't romance anyone in my first play of ME1, I was fine.
But in another game My male Shepard did romance someone (sorry, can't remember if it was Ashley or Liara)
And when the sex scene arrived, I went outside my room and wait until they were done because I found it disgusting even if it's just a game (that part of my personality).
Oh and I did the Alenko romance too with my female shepard and I did the same thing.
...
Yes yes I know, I am weird and all.
Discusting? really? that was natural, that was art! Discusting? That's romantic passion!
There is nothing discusting about that! Naturally occuring anyway, it's what you got to do
to have kids after all.

If he attacks you, then you have the right to defend yourself. But if you use weapons, then you'll have a hard time proving that without any bystanders.
Its best to just open the door and scream that he gets out.
Otherwise, those are the rules in The Netherlands.
