I can relate to that feeling. I do not currently own any firearms (many European nations have extremely strict gun laws), yet a few years back when I lived in Scotland there was a break-in in my apartment while I was away on vacation. No further break-ins occured after that while I still lived there, but I did sleep with a hammer under my bed for the next six months and I was prepared to go after a potential thief's hands or head if need be. Not feeling safe in one's home is the antithesis of what "home" means to many people (even if security is often a matter of "feel good" psychology as our homes are often quite easy to break in to).

Do you know that you can be charged for assault if you attack the thief?

That's.. ridiculous.

If he attacks you, then you have the right to defend yourself. But if you use weapons, then you'll have a hard time proving that without any bystanders.

Its best to just open the door and scream that he gets out.
Otherwise, those are the rules in The Netherlands.

Here in FLA, if someone breaks into your home, and you feel your life is threatened; you have the right to shoot the perp dead where he/she stands.

ah i love it here in FL

In Wisconsin, you can shoot any Indian on your property without provocation.

Even when I was a kid I hated other kids.

Some, heck many can be, though some are worse offenders than others. Also, not all kids are "loud, stupid, annoying, ugly" at all times. That's my take on it. I'm not convinced I want kids just yet and I could probably go through life quite happily without kids, but then when I think about having a lovely little daughter smiling up at me and taking my large hands in to her tiny hands I just feel myself melt on the inside. A healthy son would be quite welcome too I should add.

hey guys, I have an idea that I want to run by you. I'm still working on developing but here goes:
It seems likely that for ME3 Shepard will have to traverse the galaxy in the hopes of building
an army to fight the reapers. That said, he would need to resolve some issues to gain the
support, kinda like dragon age origins.

What if, during the main mission, a prothean artifact
is discovered with intel on what they refer to as the "hybrid equation". The civilization that
pre-dated them left clues behind of an artifact so powerful, it has the ability to change the
galaxy dramatically. The artifact holds the secret to the most powerful genetic engineering
ever discovered, with possibilities ranging from the creation of cross-species children to the
creation of supersoldiers. The original purpose of the artifact is unknown, the protheans found
clues to its location but perished before finding it.

Sheppard now knows of this artifact and its unconceivable potential, but he is not alone. The
other powers in the galaxy have heard of this as well. The Shadow Broker, Cerberus, and a
number of other groups also seek the artifact for their own gain. Sheppard's mission then comes
to find the "hybrid equation" before the others. But how will he use it? Will he use it to bring the
galaxy together? Will he use it as a weapon? That's for you to decide.

What do you think?

An ancient artifact with unconceivable potential. Good thing it's not a reaper trap ;)
Creating supersoldiers by using tech you can't control is like handing the reapers our galaxy on the platter...

I do favour strict gun laws, but I do wish there was more leeway for a civilian to gain a permit for one. It should amount to more than a 3 day background check period though, IMO. Perhaps it should even include a professional psychological profiling session.

Yes, but if I feel my life is threatened I'd rather take my chances in a court of law pleading self-defence than be beaten, raped and/or killed by an intruder without trying to fight back. The police advocate leaving the intruder be and that is not an unwise piece of advice yet sometimes that may not be a viable option for a vareity of possible reasons. On matters of burglars entering private homes I side clearly with the American law that you are allowed to defend yourself in your own home, by lethal force if need be. The burglar has no business there and if he/she dies in the process then he/she should have stayed away.

You know, I think people of our age can't really imagine what it's like to go through life without raising a child.
It may seem OK now, but it comes back to bite you one day when it's way too late to change it. Very few people don't come to regret such a decision somewhere down the line, and from your outlook I get the feeling you wouldn't be one of them.

Dying alone is one of the most horrible things that can happen to anyone. :(

Wow, what a bleak topic.

The right to defend your self, in my eyes, is one of the ultimate freedoms and RIGHTS of a human being. Do gun crimes happen in the US? Yes they do, but most of them are criminals who don't go to the ma&pop gun store and do a federal background check. They by them off the streets out of a car trunk/boot. Not the person who follows the law, buys the gun leagaly. ( I know you weren't implying anything about gun crime, I'm just rambling lol)

But I can sleep in peace at night, for I have the peace maker in hands reach.

Bah. Far as I'm concerned if someone breaks into my home then they have accepted the risk of getting smacked in the face with a blunt object.

They can lay charges all they want with a mouthful of broken teeth.

Agreed.

If you knowingly trespass and violate existing laws trying to rob or harm other people that have not done any direct harm to you (and if they have then contact the authorities providing you live in a country not completely consumed by corruption), then you deserve every bit of violence coming your way while trespassing, IMO. Even if that may result in death. Leave other people's homes alone. It's really quite simple.
