You know, I think people of our age can't really imagine what it's like to go through life without raising a child.
It may seem OK now, but it comes back to bite you one day when it's way too late to change it. Very few people don't come to regret such a decision somewhere down the line, and from your outlook I get the feeling you wouldn't be one of them.

Wow, what a bleak topic.
Back to Tali love <3, everyone!!! :wizard:

Everyone dies alone, the only difference is what you leave behind.

Terrorists dont.
Is that better?

Lol, well if you want to be literal... People in accidents don't die alone either, or people hit by bombs :pinched:

i fully agree

Everyman dies, not everyman truly lives.

What we do in life echoes in eternity.

Bah. Far as I'm concerned if someone breaks into my home then they have accepted the risk of getting smacked in the face with a blunt object.

They can lay charges all they want with a mouthful of broken teeth. [/quote]

That post has inspired me, lol.

I can relate to that feeling. I do not currently own any firearms (many European nations have extremely strict gun laws), yet a few years back when I lived in Scotland there was a break-in in my apartment while I was away on vacation. No further break-ins occured after that while I still lived there, but I did sleep with a hammer under my bed for the next six months and I was prepared to go after a potential thief's hands or head if need be. Not feeling safe in one's home is the antithesis of what "home" means to many people (even if security is often a matter of "feel good" psychology as our homes are often quite easy to break in to).

Do you know that you can be charged for assault if you attack the thief?

That's.. ridiculous.

If he attacks you, then you have the right to defend yourself. But if you use weapons, then you'll have a hard time proving that without any bystanders.

Its best to just open the door and scream that he gets out.
Otherwise, those are the rules in The Netherlands.

Castle doctrine. Depending on the state/city, they might try to arrest you for fighting off a rapist or mugger. We're glad we don't live in Chicago... Creator-Tali'Zorah would appreciate the Remington 870 next to us.

I couldn't imagine living in a place where self defense is.. well.. nearly against the law.

A friend once asked me "Why do you own guns?" and I said "Because the cops are fast enough. My .38 special is."

I share your sentiments and yet many Europeans are aghast at the thought of having gun laws like the ones in the US. I do favour strict gun laws, but I do wish there was more leeway for a civilian to gain a permit for one. It should amount to more than a 3 day background check period though, IMO. Perhaps it should even include a professional psychological profiling session.

The right to defend your self, in my eyes, is one of the ultimate freedoms and RIGHTS of a human being. Do gun crimes happen in the US? Yes they do, but most of them are criminals who don't go to the ma&pop gun store and do a federal background check. They by them off the streets out of a car trunk/boot. Not the person who follows the law, buys the gun leagaly. ( I know you weren't implying anything about gun crime, I'm just rambling lol)

But I can sleep in peace at night, for I have the peace maker in hands reach.

yeah, the only ones gun control laws take guns from are the good people who wouldn't use them for crimes and sh*t

Some, heck many can be, though some are worse offenders than others. Also, not all kids are "loud, stupid, annoying, ugly" at all times. That's my take on it. I'm not convinced I want kids just yet and I could probably go through life quite happily without kids, but then when I think about having a lovely little daughter smiling up at me and taking my large hands in to her tiny hands I just feel myself melt on the inside. A healthy son would be quite welcome too I should add.

Tony Randall had two kids at age 75...it's never too late!

I beg to disagree. For ladies it most definitely is, and many men suffer from decreased libido and potency in higher age. Also the risk of male infertility as well as numerous hereditary illnesses grows quite high for older fathers. Also consider numerous other possible ilnesses and pharmacological influences affecting man's ability to conceive a child.
Not to mention, raising kids takes a lot of  energy and time, which is also easier to give during when you're in the prime time of your life. Esp. when you wish to see your children grow up and have their own family.
Revan, I figure your outlook will change one day, even though it may seem improbable to you now. Would it be extremely impertinent of me to ask you how old you are? If yes, I apologize in advance...

You should see some of the sex laws we have...

In texas it is illegal to have sex with a fish, in florida it is illegal to get a fish drunk, and N.Carolina thought both laws were good, so in NC it is illegal to have sex with a drunk fish.

For instance

Kids are loud, stupid, annoying, ugly,...
Even when I was a kid I hated other kids.

You might change your tune in time. Whatever the case, for you - indeed for all of you - I wish happiness, contentment with the lives you lead and peace.
