Irrelevant of specialisation, niche technologies and training, the US Military is the only military in the world with true power projection to the scale of being able to single-handedly undertake an invasion across a sea.

The British/French/Israeli/Japanese (Self-Defence) Armed Forces are the best in the world, but they simply can't compare when operating alone in a forward-deployed position.

Correct (the part in bold).

No, it's pretty standard.

You're depressed, you don't care. You don't care so you don't try. You don't try so you never do anything.

It's why depression leads to all sorts of eating, sleeping disorders, it's why depressed people are often quite unclean. They do the bare minimum to survive. So fail even though or take suicide as the route.

She has shown far too much enthusiasm in her posts to be anything but truly depressed.

Have you been depressed, have you been around groups of people that are suffering through depression? Or are you just talking from your ass?

That'd be hot if she was; but a lot of people in the world are sad or depressed, doesn't mean they're goth :P

And in fact, true diagnosis of depression as a medical unit is rather severe. Really depressive people don't come to threads like this, they lack the motivation to.
What we might have here among us is merely a case of dysphoria, or perhaps cyclothymia, which means cycling of  periods of pronounced elevation and depression of mood without reaching to the scale of true depression or mania.
Hope I put it right, it's not something I'm used to say in english...

Goth people act depressed outwardly.

Truly depressed people don't do anything outwardly.

Not true, everyone reacts differently to depression, it's not as universal as you'd might think. :?

I'll take the reporting of a BBC documentary following the trials and tribulations of Legionnaires undergoing the training over what you've got.

No military force is invincible, despite a military tendency to engage in bravado. The potential downside I personally see with the FFL is that there may not be a lot of leeway nor tolerance for thinking amongst the lower ranked soldiers. That's great for discipline, yet not necessarily so great when you need to think on your feet and outmaneuver an enemy in live combat. The US has the largest, most powerful military hands down. By some estimates it's up to two generations of tech ahead of other militaries in the world and it has some of the best trained soldiers in specific roles in the world yet not all US forces are the best at everything and have been, and are, outperformed at certain tasks by other militaries. I realise this can be an unwelcome thought to many Americans as American culture seems to place an inordinate amount of focus on always "being the best", etc.

I'm not saying American militaries are the best or unstoppable. I'm saying I hear ALOT of stories that are the exact opposite in nature.Where the US special forces or Marines show up the foreign nato allied forces in various wargames and exercises. I used to hear them damn near daily when I had military friends I spent time with.

I'm sure some of theirs were even verifiable. It's just circle jerking though. I'm sure it happens to both sides, but largely the Nato countries keep fairly standard par soldier.

Actually, our Army recruits are pretty ****ty, lets just compare the average Marine instead.

I don't recommend (psychiatric) diagnosis-by-internet.

I highly recommend Taliwub-by-internet, however.

Everyone's depressed in High School, did you take medicine for it, go to therapy regularly?

Cheers Ant. Personally I don't care that we are off topic. This thread would die if all there was left to discuss had to be constantly about Tali. As long as Tali and ME related themes crop up frequently along with all the other jazz there's life left in this baby.

Morning KFD, and y'all.
I can kind of attest to the depression thing myself, since I suffer from it somewhat frequently.
On another happier note, I'm glad to see we've reached the 737 page mark. Let's go for 1200 before the mods discover us!

The entire Ranger branch of the army is equivalent to that of the Marines. Army are for people whodon't want to hit the ground running, that's what the Marines are for. Bathroom break for a while.

As he said: It's different for everyone. Some don't tell anyone about their feelings, some speak with their loved ones about it and others are very open with it.

I'm in High School. There are plenty of days that I consider eating a bullet.

But for the sake of lulz I soldier on.

I've been a wanderer all of my life and many a sight I've seen!

Godspeed the day, when I'm on my way, to my home in Aberdeen!
