I was more referring to the whole kill 100 to save a thousand situation, you've hit on another grey area. If you let the murderer go in your situation, and he kills 20 people before you get another chance to stop him, then it was worth it to kill those 8.
Tieing it in to Mass Effect. Compare it to Zaeed's loyalty mission, stop a merc leader and ruthless murderer, letting innocents die in the process, or save the innocents, and let Vido go. IMO, its better to kill Vido. He is all but guaranteed to kill a lot more people if you let him live. Unfortunately there is no way to know in some cases what the right decision is until its too late. This is a troublesome grey area, and a lot of times, your stuck choosing between two wrong answers.
Well thats simply a plot device, its the same reason why you can't have more than 3 people with you at a time, better to just have a suspension of reality towards issues like that.
Your still looking at the situation to idealistically IMO. Are you damning them to death? Yes, but if you don't stop Vido, your doing the same exact thing to other people at another time at another place. Does the fact that you don't see those people die justify it? Not to me.
The fact is that Shepard does have power over whether a lot of people live or die, that's the nature of his being a hero. There is no way around it.

Politically it makes sense but the council is condoning legal piracy, so long as it's their own.
The Council was advocating a class 2 offense of their own treaty (bombardment of a garden world) as a response to a specie that was about to recover.
Condoning a specie to exile and death by attrition is pretty damn cold. I vote for a new council. I may be a paragon but working for a council of gutless butchers is sickening me.
Good to be in charge, huh?
Oh they'll enjoy it for now. I sacrificed a whole slew of humans to prove to the galaxy we know what we're doing. Public opinion is already swinging our way. We'll have all the power soon enough.

That doesn't hold any water to me. If you ignore the people in the refinery, you are condemning them to death, right then. Anything that Vido might do in the future is pure conjecture.

Well Vido is just the Blue Sun leader. Someone else will take his place, maybe more ruthless than he is. You wouldn't know who, but someone ruthless most likely. Is it right to forsake the innocent workers to kill Vido, who would just be replaced like a fired bullet from a Rifle? I understand that you don't always have that opportunity. However, If Zaeed wasn't such a damn ****** and blew the gas line in the factory you could kill Vido anywaysPhil725 wrote...

This. What Vido does in the future is unknown. (For that matter, it's not even known if Vido will be able to get away at that point.) What is known is that a bunch of people are going to burn to death if you don't help out.Jakegnosis wrote...
