You are sort of forgetting the fact that Vido has no resources to destroy an entire colony, not to mention that as a mercanary group they would simply go in, since they don't want to draw attention or have to maintain the colony, steal what they can, then go home. You are just supposing that these people are terrorists, but theyre not, just mercs who go to the highest bidder. Cerberus though, could do something like the scenario you proposed. Also, don't you think that this lapse in security would cause a power struggle in the Blue Suns? Would certaintly quiet them the hell downPhil725 wrote...
So what if you save those people, and the next day Vido blows up an entire colony, killing thousands in order to get some element zero from it. Do you blame yourself for their deaths, or justify it yourself by saying that you had no way to know?
You dodged my question. My question is do you hold yourself responsible for anyone that Vido kills after you let him go, or is it off your conscience completely?
Me personally, I would see every person that he killed as a personal failure by me because I didn't stop him when I had the chance.

Really? Cause there are A LOT of messed up people in ME universe and Vido is definately one of the more milder ones, Because a merc group is more organized than a bunch of small bands of criminals. You treat this like if you kill Vido, it would all crumble, yet the many assassinations in history that did not crumble resolve beg to differ (for example, Archduke Ferdinand's assassination -> WWI.) (WWI burnPhil725 wrote...

Saying that the saving of civilians is wrong is... well.. wrong. Vido was evil, yes. But Vido is just another idiot with a gun, a voice, and mindless soldiers. If you kill Vido outright, someone else will just take his position. Even if they didn't, There would then be an army of leaderless mercanaries, who, alone, may be even more dangerous than togetherPhil725 wrote...

Well Vido is just the Blue Sun leader. Someone else will take his place, maybe more ruthless than he is. You wouldn't know who, but someone ruthless most likely. Is it right to forsake the innocent workers to kill Vido, who would just be replaced like a fired bullet from a Rifle? I understand that you don't always have that opportunity. However, If Zaeed wasn't such a damn ****** and blew the gas line in the factory you could kill Vido anyways
I know this is a silly comparison but by killing the villian in Modern Warfare 1 you allow a much more ruthless and bloodthirsty leutenient gain control in the following story. Sometimes starting at the top down is the worst way to dismantle an organization that recruits morally ambiguous troops.
And if that happened in Vido's case, then clearly my choice was wrong. That goes back to my whole point about choosing between two wrong choices though. It isn't always as simple as right and wrong.
IMO, it seems like people here are content with sticking with constants, saving the people they can see, and end it with a clear conscience because you don't see the consequences of your decision. Just because you don't see the consequences doesn't mean they aren't there though.
Vido is by no stretch of the imagination a mindless person with a gun. He is the ruthless leader of the most successful mercenary group in the galaxy, and has been for 20 years. The chance that his follower is more ruthless/successful is very small.

#1 I'm pretty sure Zaeed hits the pilot at the end of the mission and #2 It's not the right thing to do because you have no idea what will happen if you kill Vido. IF you kill him, someone else will take over, probably even more maniacal. Saying it's the right thing to do to kill Vido would be like telling the future, which you can't. Also, would you honestly say that those people can die all because of Zaeed and Vido? The end would not justify all the innocent workers who burned to death due to your inhumanityPhil725 wrote...

That doesn't hold any water to me. If you ignore the people in the refinery, you are condemning them to death, right then. Anything that Vido might do in the future is pure conjecture.
Is it conjecture though? The game makes it very clear that Vido will do anything, and kill anyone. Your gambling with human lives with any choice along this line. In my mind this is one of the easier ones to make. The only way Vido doesn't kill more people than the amount that dies in the factory is if he drops dead from a heart attack that night. It takes a very renegade person to be able to say "let those people die, this will save more people in the long run." I doubt I could do it in real life, but in Mass Effect, where its an avatar, and emotions don't get in the way of pragmatism, its the right thing to do.
So what if you save those people, and the next day Vido blows up an entire colony, killing thousands in order to get some element zero from it. Do you blame yourself for their deaths, or justify it yourself by saying that you had no way to know?
"What if" is the relevant part of that. There's no "what if" regarding those workers burning to death. You can "what if" all day long. What if Vido, realizing that he doesn't just have Zaeed on his ass now, but also Commander f**king Shepard, decides to play it safe and lay low? Or come right after Shepard and Zaeed? What if he gets shot in the face by an ambitious lieutenant, or dies in an ambush by a rival mercenary company?
Hence the grey area I referenced in my first post. If you honestly think that your saving more lives by saving the refinery, then thats your decision. I disagree, and think that the refinery workers are an acceptable loss to stop someone like Vido. Its all hypothetical on which choice was better. I think its clearly better to kill Vido, but obviously others have different viewpoints. We can debate the merits of each choice, but in the end there is no way to prove who is right.

Well you are dodging the fact on how unrealistic your scenario is. If something like that did happen, I would feel personal fault in it but it is better than just killing off people in the refinery to fulfill the revenge quest. Still though, the event you described would never happenPhil725 wrote...

Maybe if it were a full expansion, but I wouldn't expect to see it in any free DLC. There's no way they'd pay Liz Sroka to come in and add new dialogue on something that wasn't being paid for.
And since they're apparently already in the early stages of production on ME3, I dunno how likely any full expansions are
