Holy smoke how did you fail that bad?

On purpose, ya. It was harder to do that then get everyone out alive.

having babies with tali is most possible but the deformities can be minor or sometimes be major

No it cannot happen Quarians are  dextro-protein aka the DNA does not match up.

I reject your reality and substitute my own

It's wikipedia, but I trust that source of information

Umm, as for chirality in amino acids, it means all the difference in the world from a biological standpoint.

Majority of what builds our cells and bodies are proteins. It's the way they interact that causes the incredible machine we are working smoothly, from simple structural stability of our bodies to the regulation of myriad processes taking place inside us all the time.

All of this interaction is inevitably based on what shapes and conformation those proteins take, like building a jigsaw puzzle or a clockwork mechanism.

Every protein is a chain of amino acids linked together so that they assume some shape. This shape is key, as protein interaction usually works similar to a lock-and-key mechanism.

Chirality (what's hanging left and right in one particular place of the AA molecule) defines its entire geometry and shape; the difference is like between our left and right hands. The entire network, the entire clockwork mechanism, would have to be made differently because the wheels are different. If you took a random mix of both, you could never make it work because the proteins wouldn't fit together.

The only scientifically tenable way for Shepard and Tali to have a child would be to adopt one or use donor semen/surrogate mother.

Biologically engineering a child could also theoretically work in the ME universe. But not taking Shepard's DNA and building upon it.

Large and as pointless as it is, still not possible, the whole logic over this is flawed, if human can't mix dna with different species of are own planet what make you think we can of another worlds? Specially one with a different DNA level to are.

Comes down to it everyone want every species to have “Asair” syndrome and make the universe dull pointless and I die a little on the inside.

Hey what about this? Miranda was constructed completely from her father's dna, right? So why don't they have two kids gentically created from each of there dna, altered just enough to make them indivudals insteada clones, like Miranda was? That way they have kids, and it satisfies the whole wanting to have genetic offspring thing:)

^ ^ ^ ^ Valid? anybody?

Only works within same species. Human -:> Human or Quarian -> Quarian. DNA between species incompatible. Unable to create viable offspring from mixing. Adoption easier. Better for all involved. Shepard/Tali get child(ren). Child(ren) get loving parents.

not talking mixing, a human child and a quarian child, based off of Shep's dna and Tali's dna respectively and individually. Baby Shep clone, Baby Tali clone

Possible. Acceptable. Expensive. Adoption better and easier choice. But. This is alternative. Would make for interesting Mass Effect 4: The Next Generation.

So is anyone here actually educated enough in biology to explain to me why chiral amino acids would cause such a huge problem? From what I know of biology (first year university) you should still be able to assemble left-handed proteins with the same functions as right-handed proteins. If this were true though, it would only solve eating problems. Having hybrid children would still be impossible due to BEING A GODDAMN ALIEN.

I got a BA in Bio and a minor in chemestry and as far as I know the effects of chirality on genetics has to do with the lock and key models of enzymes and protiens. Enzymes often contain cavities or spaces that other molecules fit into to "activate" them. If a enzyme has is for an R protien and and L protien comes along it wont fit.It correctly and may not cuase the enzyme to work. Think of trying to put your right hand in a left handed glove. even if you flip it over it still feels awkward. Humans have predominately R biochemical pathways. If L protiens were introduced in place of the R protiens many functions would fail to perform and the organism would likely die.

Notes though

Levo and Dextro while tied to chirality are not actually terms describing chirality and in fact an R molecule can be either Dextro or Levo (and same for an L molecule)

Also a note on foods, chirality should have a much less notable effect on food consumption than noted in the game. Some foods may be harmful but really not so common. Humans already consume both R and L molecules regularly. Most Amino Acids are R type. (thats meat and plant protiens) However most Sugars are L type. (Like fruits and well sugar).

Most L type molecules are sweet also, so assuming that quarians use L type amino acids there is a high probablitly that kissing Tali is SWEET!

Recall from previous discussion. However. Already knew kissing Tali is sweet. However. Tongue now can taste sweetness. Not just heart.
