Woah, that's one of the worst Renegade actions in the game! I only did it once, because after my first playthrough, when Garrus got wounded, I thought it was my fault for letting the Gunship get repaired. When I realized that he gets shot either way, I refrained from ever doing that again.

But it's far too hilarious and badass for me to pass up.
And come on, he's a batarian! It's not like those guys know what "ethics" mean 

As an aside, I almost never use any Renegade options in conversation as they're too barbaric for my tastes, but I do some of the renegade interrupts. It totaled me a single bar in the renegade scale.

If you need additional motivation, I'm going to bed and I'll be very disappointed if I wake up and this thread has less than 1000 pages

Yes. Do all your party members' loyalty missions before activating the IFF. Also upgrade the Normandy before then as well. Now just use rudimentary logic as to whom fits what roles best for "Suicide Run" and it's practically a done deal. Easy as pie.

I heard someone saying that even Chakwas can die if you wait long enough, but I don't know whether that's true or not.

Someone posted about "Batarians not knowing about ethics" and using that as a justification for doing something human ethics would consider questionable (i.e. electrocuting someone while they have their back turned to you). First of all, we don't know that all Batarians lack a sense of ethics - it could be that there concept of ethics is different from humanity's concept of ethics. Second of all, and this is the more important part, ethics are not dependent upon others recognizing nor operating by the same ethical standards. Ethics is a personal matter whereby you measure your own actions against a defined moral/ethical compass. It doesn't matter if others play by the same rules or not because you are judging your own actions just as much, if not more so, than the actions of others in regards to your ethical code.

isn't EDI the SR-2? Wouldn't that be her with herself?

The SR-2 has a baseline capacity to function without EDI in the same way a modern aeroplane, like the Boeing 777, can still fly without its FMC (Flight Managment Computer) functioning.

Essentially, it would be like banging an inanimate object, but how many inanimate objects do you know that can split a Collector's ship in half with a particle cannon that fires out its "crotch".

I thought that was only if you didn't have someone escourt her, but I have no idea.

It is, she survives just long enough to tell you what they were doing to people and then you send her off...
