Bonus armors are useful at the start of the game when you don't have all of the N7 upgrades. But, once you start getting those and can customize your N7 armor, these sets become moot. They cannot be customized, even tint cannot be changed, you cannot set which piece shows up and which doesn't (like helmet) and so on.. So in the end they'll end up useless which is sad.

It is when you can't customize them. However, you're complaining they're moot because you can't change the aesthetic outlook. I have every piece of Armor in the game, including all the DLC sets and the Dr. Pepper promos. Most N7 combinations are subtly off a few points when comparing to DLC, and trying to make Armor sets "Better" usually ends up in some wonky looking suit which outside of max damage, is remotely the same or worse than the DLC Armor.

It's a matter of taste, I stopped caring about looking good in Armor.

Unless you're a Soldier/Infiltrator capitalizing on Headshot/Max Damage with your weapons, DLC Armor is a wonderful choice.

Also, I have my own customizable suit, it's mainly a defense suit because my N7 Armor is redundant compared to Blood Dragon Armor, because I play as an Adept. I just use the Recon Hood because it looks awesome in a Glossy Black Armor with a #2 White pattern. We keep saying, most people's choices in Armor ends up redundant because most classes or Bonus powers offer enough protection, so everyone complains about it. This would have been avoided had all the DLC been offered in pieces instead of Armor sets, that way people can mix and match with the best, but then most of the Armor wouldn't be compatible, so either way it's a no go, because now it's too late to even try to do something new besides add new parts/new sets.
