Aww Bug...it's okay [pats bug]. If we are on 'whoops, did I do that?' page then I have a confession too.
My 1st full ME1 PT I wanted to keep Emily for Garrus. But then I was nice and chatted to Kaiden and he thought I WANTED him.
"No, Kaiden. No. Look, I didn't mean...I was just trying to be nice. Yes, yes I like talkin....no, I don't want to get all horizontal with y...No, I am sure you're a nice guy, but you are just not dextro enough..." [pushes Virmire button]
Some guys don't take an assault rifle to the face as a hint.

The joy of discovering a whole new set of interactions when importing gave the game a new feel. Which, after 2 other ME2 only PTs was like finding the best surprise ever! Wrex is alive and well and I got to talk to hiim. Yay!

The latter.  It hurt me a bit when there was that horrible silence between when I said "I could never love a dying man" and he actually spoke, but I found I could live with it considering 1) I never spoke to Thane again that whole game and 2) I GOT GARRUS, HELLO
Seriously, I did feel bad, but finally I decided, "You've had a huge crush on him since the first game, are you crazy??!?  Of course dump whoever else you're with already!!!" :P

I find it easier in my brain to use a different Shep (otherwise I'd romance Garrus... every, single, TIME).

I have been trying very hard to stay faithful to Kaidan (despite the Horizon heartbreak!); I've played ME2 3x (once still caring about him then wham! Horizon, once for Thane and once to try with Kaidan again, only to fail w/Kaidan again -or- succeed in terms of Garrus).

Aftrer thinking about it, I decided to do what you did: I started ME1 again with a completely new Shepard with new background, who is going to be Kaidan's girl. My Chani is the main one and she <3s Garrus. So I get to have some fun as Eleni and some roleplaying.

+1.  I really love Jennifer Hale's VO in general (the one exception: Felicia/Catwoman from that old Spider-Man series, ugh...although to be fair, she was FAR from the only thing wrong with that series), but in ME2, she sounded soooo sleazy and stilted (aka, Uma-Thurmanish-as-Poison-Ivy-in-Batman-and-Robin) that I was like, WTF??

I have two Sheps.  One will stay with Kaidan.  One left him for Garrus.  No offence to Thane or Jacob, but I can't see either Shep leaving Kaidan for them.  Turning to Garrus, yes.  Those two, no.  

Hence the single Shep.

I swear, if, in ME3, they just let Kaidan/Ash walk back in and say, "Oh hey, how's it going?" and you don't even get to pour beer on their heads and rip into them, then I am having Nikora Shepard go back to ME2 and pick up Garrus so she can go back to ME3 and tell Kaidan to go to hell... with Garrus on her arm.

(Amara Shepard already has him.)

A while back there was a thread for what paragon/renegade interrupts would we have liked to have seen in ME2. Punching Kaidan/Ash on Horizon (or having Garrus do it) was my idea. Didn't really care which category it fell under, I just wanted it.

It would be fun if we could reskin Harkin to look like Kaidan in Garrus' loyalty mission. We could turn down the volume and happily pretend it's the arse kicking that Kaidan deserved, delivered Garrus- style.

Edit:  Is it a good thing that more Kaidan fans don't pop by over here and see this? Haha.

My MainShep didn't romance anyone in ME1, even before I knew that Garrus would be an option in ME2. My poor MaleShep, my first Shepard who is now in NG+, made many out of character decisions the first time around. It's a little hard for me to keep them in character on my first playthrough because I like to choose different options just to see what happens. xD My first character for ME and DA games usually becomes my "experiment" character. Unfortunately for poor MaleShep, when I wanted to see what the ME1 romances were like, there were two options - Liara and Ashley. Ashley is one of my least favorite characters, so he went for Liara, but turned her down at the final romance scene. Poor guy, I just couldn't make him go through with it.

From the minute Tali came in, I thought she was his type. Well, at least she's an option for him in ME2.

I always bring Garrus with me to Horizon, the first by coincidence and ever after because he speaks up for me. Kaidan's email was--- so insufficient. I did try to see his p.o.v. for my fanfic about what happens between the three (S,G and K) after it's all done... and I actually was able to- and Garrus told him that he ought to hit him but wouldn't in response to K's harsh questions a la Horizon about how G became close to Shepard. It felt like something Kaidan deserved yet something that would diminish Garrus in a way. (This gets into the 'to kill or not to kill'  Sidonis territory, which G doesn't do in my PTs).  That threat of hitting him worked for me plus Shep telling K that she was now with the one who had always stood by her, no matter what happened.

I will not be pleased if there is some 'punishment' or casting of the G S as infidelity for ME3. Consequences I can understand, but those need to be evenly distributed among all parties (looking at you, Kaidan).

I don't think beatings are even remotely possible, FWIW. If there is any beating going on, I would much rather see a Garrus/FemShep sparring match, anyway.

The Shepards I planned out for Kaidan/Ashley romances wouldn't start a fight about it, but they'd definitely have an argument along the lines of "How could you?" and "Why didn't you trust me?" One of those Shepards wouldn't let Kaidan back on the Normandy if she had the option, because the way she sees it, he betrayed her.

Lucky for Kaidan and Ashley, those Shepards are Paragons/Paragades. EvilShep has a different way of dealing with betrayal. xD

Good luck. I'll probably finish the side missions I have left over today so I can get through Virmire soon. I want to know if my theory of how to stay out of the romance worked.

I've shot Wrex once. Once. First playthrough of an ME1 character intended to be an import, needed some end-game renegade points for a free Intimidate rank for restart. I'd never shot Wrex before, thought I'd see how it goes down.



My god...it was horrible. I put down the controller, went outside, and choked down a little bile. First his response, the almost "Et tu, Shepard?" of it, and then the sheer visceral awfulness of hearing him choke to death on high-velocity shot and his own blood...I've never stuck it to Lorik (frankly, Anoleis just rubs even my Renegades the wrong way; stuck-up little salarian deserves it, five years in white-collar prison is long-ass time to people who live to 50) so that remains the most betrayal I've felt from a video game character in a long time.

I like Ashley. I had one playthrough where I was all "Okay, Ash, we're going all the way together. No Liara to get in the way. We'll have a nice romance. I'll convince you that aliens are great. It'll be great." Then she shot Wrex. It was the only time I had apparently failed to either 1) get his family armor or obtain the needed persuasion points.

I left Ashley to die in the nuclear blast.

And yes, it was probably the most petty decision I've ever made in either game. Sorry, Ash.

As for Anoleis, if you really want to stick it to the Salarian in the most renegade way possible, tell him that his assistant is an undercover operative. There will be much bloodshed and Lorik gets the administrator position he wanted.

Bringing it back to Garrus, I did very much wish I could romance him in the first game, but that was quickly tempered in the second game. I know most people enjoyed his evolution to pure badass, but I was a bit disappointed that Garrus chose the life of a vigilante on Omega. I think my expectations for him are incredibly high and playing with the thugs on Omega seemed small time to me. I think he realized it was small time, too, but he didn't know what else to do. Anyway, even when I did romance him, there's this feeling that I hope he realizes he could be so much more if he'd just give himself a little more credit.

This is why I actually don't let him kill Sidonis. Garrus sees himself as a failure to his team, sees himself as a failure to his own life. I want him to look at Sidonis, see a man who really has completely failed in every aspect, and I want Garrus to realize that he is much better than that.

 ^--^ This. Well-put. I let Sidonis talk about it all to give Garrus the opportunity to hear him and his brokenness, then make the choice to not kill him, which mirrors what I experienced listening to him.
