Hmmmm. I just got told (and I hadn't noticed this before) that the turian Executor is different in ME2; in ME1 it's Pallin.

Pallin shares a lot of the opinions that Garrus claims his father has. I thought someone here also mentioned that Garrus's father has recently retired as of ME2 (I don't remember that in any of the dialogue though...). What if Pallin is actually Garrus's father? We don't know for sure that Pallin is his last name, or that Garrus wears the same face markings as his father. He might be wearing his mother's markings, or his great-grandfather's, for all we know. If Pallin were Garrus's father, then we've all already met the guy.

Pallin is in the ship that's run over by Sovereign at the end of ME1; watch it with subtitles on, they identify him. If by some miracle he's not dead, he's half-exploded and certainly not in a position to be Executor anymore. Chellik, the C-Sec detective you run an errand for, becomes the new Executor (you hear 'Executor Chellik' mentioned over the Galactic News Net terminal).

While I don't think Pallin is Garrus's father, I wonder if they might have been distantly related somehow. Papa Vakarian sending his unruly son to live with his auntie and uncle in Bel-Air to be kept an eye on by his younger brother's wife's younger brother.

I'm 100% positive that Garrus wasn't on the Normandy when it crashed. Other characters mention him hearing about your death, not witnessing it firsthand. Plus, Jacob only mentions Tali and Liara--but probably because they were the only two mandatory aliens in ME1.

Shepard died 2 months after the events of ME1, right? It's possible that Garrus (and maybe even Wrex?) stayed for one month (or possibly a bit longer) to help Shepard and the gang fight geth and then left to go back to C-Sec and/or start Spectre training. He was probably quite eager to get started on at least one of those goals. Then a few weeks pass and Shepard dies.

The ME wiki says that his full name is Venari Pallin. So he isn't Garrus' dad, unless turians take the names of their mothers.

Plus, I thought his father was already retired before ME1 even started.

All right.  Then I am wrong.  It was just a thought.

@ Brass: I do feel it, Brass. And it hurts me. Hurts me bad. :(

Also: ASDFHSDFK; I've been wondering about Pallin being Garrus' dad. I mean, there are just too many similarities between Pallin and the way Garrus describes his dad for it to be coincidental.

- I can't abide any organization that considers itself above the law/He doesn't like Spectres and how they aren't bound by the law. He wouldn't like you, Commander. No offense.

- I've never had to bend the rules to do my job. Not once/He's a C-Sec man through and through. Either do things right, or don't do them at all.

Pallin also expresses his dislike of Saren, and Garrus mentions how his father is worried that he'll be just like him if he keeps disrespecting the rules. I think at one point they both refer to him as a "mad man."

Plus--we've pretty much come to the conclusion that Garrus and Papa Vakarian already have quite a few disagreements. Harkin's comment on Garrus always butting heads with the Executor seems to fit right in with this. Also, how else would Papa Vakairan find out about Garrus resigning from C-Sec? I, for some reason, don't imagine Garrus telling his father of his resignation, especially if he knew that it would hurt him (Garrus might not agree with his dad all the time, but he seems to respect him quite a bit). But if he were to resign, who would he have to give his notification to? Pallin.

The plot thickens!

...But I'm pretty sure that Pallin is his last name. Maybe Pallin and Papa Vakarian are good friends and their conduct kind of rubbed off on each other? Mrrrrr. It still seems too coincidental.
@ Gar Logan: Oh! Interesting! Please make sure to tell me about some of your other ideas. Posted Image

@ Sialater: I agree that Garrus doesn't necessarily need another reason outside of rage!quitting other than the Council and the Alliance's "Shepard sucks!" campaign, but I don't know, he sounded so determined to make a difference in C-Sec...maybe he was also frustrated with the direction C-Sec was taking in regards to lowering the crime rate in certain districts by taking bribes from criminals? He does operate on a very white/black view, and I can't see him compromising himself like that when it comes to putting criminals away. This seems to fit with the "I won't compromise myself to get there" line he gives to Shepard if influenced Paragon. How could people trust him to do his job and take care of them if he was taking bribes from criminals that could hurt them? That thought probably didn't sit well with Garrus.

As for Garrus being on the Normandy when it asploded: Most of the dialogue seems to point to him not being on board during the Collector attack, but I thought I remembered Garrus mentioning going back to C-Sec after the Normandy exploded? Maybe Garrus didn't say anything about it because it was possible the player could not recruit him in the first game, and recording all of that potential dialogue would be too much work.

@ Meta Ray Mek: Posted Image Lovely aimo art is lovely.

Yeah, Pallin probably died during Sovereign's attack on the Citadel - it looked like a whole lot of the Presidium people died. Detective Chellick, who Garrus didn't much approve of during ME1, is executor now.

As for Garrus /ragequtting C-Sec the second time around, now I have a horrible mental image of what /guildchat looked like that day. I'd type it out but I think it'd only amuse the people who play MMOs.

Garrus doesn't approve of Chellick? I didn't know that. Does he say something if you take him with you on the Chellick sidequest in ME1?

I liked Pallin, too. He lives on in our hearts.

If you take Garrus, he kinda snaps "Always covering ALL the angles, huh, Chellick?" or something to that effect, to which Chellick icily replies, "It's part of the job."

I don't know if I'd trust the subtitles to confirm Pallin being dead. I mean, they've screwed up with subtitles a few times in my games. One example being from the second game when Shepard talks to the ground team--Thane will be talking, but the subtitles insist that it's Joker saying the lines.

Heck yes for more Garrus lines in Mass Effect 3. More lines for everyone, really (seriously BioWare, I don't care how many discs it takes, I will give you money), but especially Garrus. Stop calibrating, stop it now!

EDIT: Heh, anyone else wonder how exactly Garrus jumped Tarak in his own home? My sister was thinking something like Rorschach.

I think he went straight back to C-Sec, if only because you can catch a glimpse of several familiar NPCs (like Chakwas) jumping into the escape pods, but no Garrus. [C-Sec] SGT Haron: Hey, it's the faction-changer! I told you that you'd be back as soon as the CD was up - those humans have great lore but they can't PVP their way into, much less out of, a wet paper bag. You still have that epic, epic gun? I'll queue us up for a little 2v2 against the asari as soon as I'm done taking this guy's statement.
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang: I wan2 2v2 asari haron! pick me!
[C-Sec] Garrus Vakarian: Tired, triumphant - and I think I might be a little bit literate, now that you mention it, Eddie. How goes?
[C-Sec] Baileysirishcoffee: Hey Garrus, great to meet you. I'm new here, joined while you were over on Alliance, but I'm actually in /officer if you need anything while you settle back in. I'm from there myself, there are some good people there. I read your procedure on acceptable interrogation techniques, great post. Added a few ideas. Look forward to working with you. (Will lag, about to start a little muzzle velocity Q&A session myself.)
[C-Sec] SGT Haron: I'm in the warehouse district right now, I'll swing by Rodam Expeditions OMW to arena. Want me to grab some tungsten rounds for you? We. Will. OWN.

[C-Sec] Garrus Vakarian:  What? No. I don't have that gun. Guys? I have a question about this geth profiling procedure. Does it really need to be a half terabyte file?
[C-Sec] SGT Haron: You don't have that gun anymore? I think I just felt part of my soul die. That was a sweet gun. I loved that rifle.
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang: WUT? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
[C-Sec] Baileysirishcoffee: One sec, Garrus, boss fight. I hate these scumbags with minions.

[C-Sec] Baileysirishcoffee:  I'll wait.
[C-Sec] Garrus Vakarian: The first 30 pages are recycled take-out menus and the rest is empty. Excuse me while I WTH.
[C-Sec] Baileysirishcoffee: See, we needed a catch-all that'd give us broader authority so we can do our jobs - not that some people bother, and yeah, I'm calling YOU a douche, Harkin, I know you're 2-box lurking on your lowbie alt 'Fade', GG BTW - and Chellick bet me good money that the Council doesn't actually READ anything we send them. So there you have it. That's why we're top guild on Citadel server these days.
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang: so u dont have that rifle NE moar? QQ
[C-Sec] Baileysirishcoffee: It's not hax, BTW. Totally legit. It's been approved. Guys, you all have an 'armory' link, use it. Garrus doesn't have THAT rifle now. He has ALL the rifles. Come on, I know some of you don't have as many fingers as I do, but the ones you have can still click the button.
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang: I haev a good sniper rifle haron pick me
[C-Sec] SGT Haron: Elkoss Combine is welfare epics, Lang, and it's so original launch gear. We have better from 'Bring Down the Sky' DLC. That gun is no good for shooting people! Maybe for clubbing them over the head, I dunno.

[C-Sec] Xchellickx: Yes, I only abuse my absolute power for the cause of goody goodness. Or when it makes me laugh. Almost done with those data feeds. I need some people to co-lead that upcoming raid.
[C-Sec] Baileysirishcoffee: Whatever you need me to do. It's not like I have a life outside of work anyway.
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang: Ill help u
[C-Sec] Baileysirishcoffee: Eddie, you need to be level 80.
[C-Sec] Baileysirishcoffee:  Look, let me book the perps and I'll take you to the lower wards to get you leveled up, okay?
[C-Sec] SGT Haron: I have to floss my fringe on Sat, boss. Doctor's orders.
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang: ill taek his loot and promotions kk ill b sgt by this time tomorro gonna pr0n raid!!! lolololololol
[C-Sec] Garrus Vakarian: Let me make sure I understand this. We're finally doing all those things I said ALL ALONG we should be doing, and the only guy besides the boss who is doing his actual job is the one with the funny name?
[C-Sec] Xchellickx: It's working out okay for us. Did I mention we're top guild on Citadel server? And if you don't like it, I have a /gkick button with your pension on it.
[C-Sec] Garrus Vakarian: Screw this! I should never have come back here. I'm gonna xfer to Omega where they have REAL PVP and start my own damn guild!
[C-Sec] **Garrus Vakarian has left the guild**

[Whisper] Garrus Vakarian to Baileysirishcoffee: Hey, you seem pretty cool and capable. If you want, I'll pay for your server transfer to Omega.

[C-Sec] SGT Haron:  Anyone checked out Omega's top guilds? Some little tiny group called Real Friends Bring Bodybags just passed Blood Pack, Eclipse AND Blue Suns over there. Apparently they have a huge bounty out on the GL, some guy called Archangel. Huh. Wonder what Garrus is up to these days. Maybe he's playing Galaxy of Fantasy instead.

Late Post is Late.

@ Umanix: Coincidence? I think not! Perhaps, as someone mentioned
earlier, Garrus took on the last name of his mother (Vakarian) rather than his
father (presuming he is Garrus’ father, Pallin). Pallin may have even endorsed
the practice. Pertaining to his job as Executor, perhaps Pallin hoped to avoid
any unpleasant results of having identical last names with a subordinate. For
examples: favoritism through familial connection or threats/bribes to a
relation. In his position of power, I can understand why Pallin would want to
maintain distance from family members (if, of course, he and Garrus were
related). But I’m heading somewhere else with this, so I’ll drop it here. At
any rate, I’m glad you highlighted the similar conversational details between
Garrus and Pallin. Moreover, I do think your claim of their possible relationship
is strongly plausible.

DIRECTING… ERR, DIRECT CONTROL ELSEWHERE: your thoughts on
Garrus’ reasons for leaving C-Sec a second time intrigue me. It would be sort
of ironic, I suppose, because Garrus—having been converted to Pallin’s policies
(i.e. Paragon Route)—
would return to a corrupt C-Sec. Not to say the organization was pure before, no,
but it was… different compared to its portrayal in Mass Effect 2. Anyway, hurp,
hurp, I look forward to seeing how these elements play out in your comic. :D

@ Ms Cherissa: I’m not sure that was Pallin that died during
the attack on the Citadel. Granted, the subtitles do say Executor—and based on the
player’s knowledge, the only person that is an Executor is Pallin, so it’s a
logical conclusion—but the voice, from what I recall, is higher in pitch than
Pallin’s. On another note, I believe Pallin would be more concerned with
evacuating civilians than leading the turian fleet against Sovereign. After
all, as a part of Citadel Security, wouldn’t he be responsible for executing and
overseeing emergency protocols? Heh, maybe I’m just crazy or something.

As for the Chellick-and-Garrus interaction, I can’t say
much. Personally, I didn’t see Garrus’ comments as being offensive; again,
though, I’m not in the position to argue. Unfortunately, the conversation that
ensues between Chellick and Garrus isn’t exclusive to them (aside from Garrus
calling Chellick by name). Regardless of what party members might be out at the
time, someone will remark on Chellick’s “angle-playing,” to which Chellick will
respond coolly.

....... I love this thread. <3

I don't think we'll ever have to worry about Garrus being as mentally unstable as Rorschach. He still has a good, sensible and forgiving head on his shoulders what with his taking in repentant former mercenaries as a part of his team. Still think Garrus refrigerator tackle with Tarak would be super amusing.

Nfffgh. No, stop making sense with your subtitle analysis!  Okay, there's still the whole subtitle issue when trying to acquire the Reaper IFF. When first meeting Legion, the subtitles in my game called him Legion when he delivered his lines, well before EDI had ever suggested dropping a name for him. But after Shepard reactivated him, the subtitles referred to him as "geth." Don't believe the lies of the subtitles!

Quick observation: In ME1 just about everyone talks to you about their family/history/homeplace. Garrus is fairly open about his dad there. Then in ME2, everyone is still open to talking about their pasts, family, homeplaces. Garrus? Nothing! Sidonis' betrayal is as far back as he talks about all of a sudden. Even if you say it's because we met him in ME1, well Tali got to take us to her fleet and 'meet' her father postmortem.

Very suspicious.

1. Bwaaaah, Tali's loyalty mission was so sad and gave us such a great view of her character. :(
2. Yet, no emotionally awesome such mission for Garrus. <_<

Maybe, if we're lucky, they'll either do DLC for ME2, or something with it in ME3. :wizard:

But referring to Legion as 'geth' is accurate. It's not like they're calling him Tali or something, it's just the subtitles pulling out his actual name a little too early. Does this with 'Fade' too. "Are you Fade?" Clearly not, Shepard, his subtitles say 'Contact'.

@ Ms Cherissa: Lulzy stuff thar, lulzy stuff. :B

@ Umanix: "Good. Then fight for it." (You know, your comic and its justice and stuff.) Stupid inclusion, but it gets the point across, or so I hope. Also, be sure to post something as soon as possible. Finally, "YES, YES, YES," *insert dramatic camera angles of Mordin's face* to Pallin cameo in ME 3.

("'Blue Suns bean juice'"? You slay me, Umanix. You utterly slay me.)

@ aynxalot: That is a compelling point you've brought up. Indeed, that could account for the differences in last names and face-paint. Lots of drama could be associated with that route as well.

Garrus: Shepard, Pallin is my father.
Ugly Shepard: Wut? :B
Pallin: No, Garrus, I am not your father.
Garrus: What? :crying:
Ugly Shepard: ...Wut? :B

... Probably would be, you know, more dramatic than that... and less stupid.

This will probably bore the people who don't MMO. You've been warned.

I think he went straight back to C-Sec, if only because you can catch a glimpse of several familiar NPCs (like Chakwas) jumping into the escape pods, but no Garrus. It's always been my thought that events went like Sovereign > Garrus leaves Normandy before geth-hunting assignment > Collector attack > Alliance/Council are massive dicks re: Shepard and Reapers > Garrus ragequits and leaves to become a superhero.

[Welcome to the Citadel! You have logged on to C-Sec chat. Patch 2.3 is live, check out that restored life support! See Avina for patch details.]

[[C-SEC Message of the Day: if u r 2 squeamish 2 ruff up suspects go C Bailey @ zakera//Sign up for the Shin Akiba pr0n raid on Sat!!!!-Chellick]]

[C-Sec]: Garrus Vakarian has logged on
[C-Sec] Harkin:
O FFS. Couldn't cut it over on Alliance? Why am I NOT surprised. ****.
[C-Sec]: Harkin has logged off
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang: omfg!
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang: wb man how r u????
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang: i thot u quit u still haev that sinper rifle?
We. Will. OWN.
[C-Sec] Garrus Vakarian: Actually, I'm kind of tired of that up close and personal combat stuff. I'd really like to get down to the work part of the job.
[C-Sec] Baileysirishcoffee: Good man.
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang:  HARON ILL GO PICK ME MANG PICK ME 4 ASARI 2V2!!!!
[C-Sec] SGT Haron: Eddie, you're not even level 80 yet. And you're being illiterate again. Tell your parents to demand back whatever taxes they paid towards public education, because they clearly got fleeced.
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang: ^man lol capslock lolololol
[C-Sec] Xchellickx: *waves* Backtalk me these days and by the spirits I WILL /gkick you, Vakarian. *Working on data feeds, will post in MOTD later*
[C-Sec] Garrus Vakarian: Hey, guys?
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang: u still haevening that gun, garrius?

(3-4 minute pause in C-Sec chat)

[C-Sec] Baileysirishcoffee:  That was, uh, my little idea of a joke. Open that file. Go on.
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang: ur just being racist agin haron
[C-Sec] SGT Haron: And you're still being a scrub. Your point?
[C-Sec] Fade: YOU CANT SEE ME LA LALALALALALALA LA LALALALA
[C-Sec] **Xchellickx has /kicked Harkin**
[C-Sec] **Fade has left the guild**
[C-Sec] Garrus Vakarian
: Spirits be praised.
[C-Sec] SGT Haron: Spirits be praised.
[C-Sec] Baileysirishcoffee: Beat me to it by half a second, Chellick.
[C-Sec] Eddie Lang: thank u thank u god he was a total class 1 richard

--end--

Can't... breathe... laughing... so... HARD.

<3 you.
Hard.
