If the mouth pic is accurate, no molars = carnivores.

As for scent? Musky?

Yea, I couldn't get into Dead Space either. The controls killed me for some reason. I felt like I was gonna die every two seconds which is not scary. It's just stressful.

And I have been considering replaying Oblivion as well.  For now, I'm gonna give Red Dead Redemption a try.  It's the closeest thing to an RPG running around right now.

Do we really have to wait at least another year for more single-player Bioware goodness?  How will I get my Garrus fix?  *Starts to break down*  Why Bioware, why?!

Nilf, I know it's chemically treated... but by what kind of chemicals? It could be natural body chemistry... then again, I was hesitant with the leather only because I'm not sure if it's hide or skin that covers them... and even then, not even sure what's the difference /flail.

From Wikipedia:

"Tanning leather involves a process which permanently alters the protein structure of skin"

So no, it's definitely not natural body chemistry. Here's a link to the article on tanning, but suffice it to say that modern-day tanning involves a whole lot of chemicals. Traditional tanning was even more gross, as it involved lye and urine Posted Image

All this talk about tanning is making me think of Perfume. I really love that book.

@ Ragabul: My problem with the feral smell is that I immediately associate it with animals. And that is a major turnoff. I suppose the closest thing to predatory I can think of without versing into the animal is a musky smell. It's commonly used in perfumes and tends to be considered as a "male" smell, IIRC.

Anybody else think it was weird that Bioware had nothing to say at E3 about DAO 2 or ME3? I guess they just want to focus on The Old Republic, but I was still disappointed.

@Nilfalasiel On the animal front, I guess it would depend on what animal. Smelling like a dog=gross or a sweaty horse=gross. But to me "musky" is an inherently animaly type of scent. I guess the animal tie-in is not a turn-off for me. All aliens seem somewhat animal like in some fashion or another to me I guess.

LMAO, Leather smells musky to me anyway.  And I used the combo of gun oil, leather, metal, and caramel in Meghan's fics.  But, the leather wasn't referring to him so much as what he was wearing.  Something has to go under that armor.

Lemme try saying it another way.

I realize that actual tanning takes a bunch of chemicals. Modern tanning is all sophisticated (better living through chemistry!), old school tanning still involved some really messed up stuff.

What I ment by body chemistry was TURIAN body chem. We're only given that they're dextro based. Was thinking maybe there's something else in their make up, could give off that kind of scent.

But it was pure speculation, since, well, we don't have access to things like turian body chemistry.

Which is a shame, really...

Plus, I would think, there's going to be a difference between turian o'natural and turians plus whatever armor clothing they wear.

Gun oils, leather or polyester could be the mix there.

Their noses are unassuming, I wonder how their sense of smell plays out in their evolution. As predators, maybe a lot. Who knows?

And yea Sia, I would think that by looking at their mouths, and not seeing any molars, they'd all be carnivores. Makes you wonder what's in the paste. And what kind of meats they eat. And how they prep their food for space travel since I don't think every ship is going to keep fresh meat around (then again, space future has SCIENCE on it's side and food preservation is probably amazingly astounding er something.)

Does scent play a part in their own culture? Do they give flowers? Do they have perfumes? I'm STILL trying to figure out how showers work for them without getting lots of water stuck in their cowls. XD

A musk scent would be nice.

I don't know where have I taken the idea from, but somewhat makes me think Turian may be variable. Do they have sweat glands? (Are they called like this in English?). I'm not sure, but they look like the kind of species that gives scent a huge importance in reproductive courtship.

PS: Going to the Win side of my Mac to play a bit! I'd support ME for Mac if there was a group. I'd buy the games again if I could help having to reboot EVERY TIME I want to play (or frying my computer by using Parallels...)

wasn't really surprised at all when Bioware only talked about The Old Republic. Matter of fact, that was the only thing I expected them to ever mention at E3.

I don't know, but Jacob smells like Old Spice.
(Haha, anyone remember that?) :P

Also wanted to add that I just played Oblivion for a bit before I played ME2, and the graphics are definitely one of the things that are ruining my chances of getting into Dragon Age.  In comparison, DA's graphics disappointed me, although I will certainly say it's definitely not all about the graphics for me (my son is exasperated with me because we got "Secret of Monkey Island special edition" and I keep it toggled to the old graphics because I like it more, LOL).  Oblivion is just SO pretty. :kissing:

Yes, they have sweat glands.  Sidonis mentions waking up in a cold sweat.

Do they shower for sure?

Oh, by the way! Have you tried (I'm sure you had) getting knocked out by booze at that bar whose name I don't remember of the Citadel where a nice Turian bartender gives Shep some drink that ends with her puking at the bathroom where a Turian is peeing?

Does the fact he can pee that way may give a clue about how their genitalia are? (Can I even talk about this here? /me ye old noobness feeling)

(Garrus was with my Shep that time. How lovely was to see him knelt down, taking care of her as she threw her intestines out <3)

Yeah, they're called sweat glands. And Sidonis mentions sweating if you let him talk during Garrus' LM, so yes, turians do sweat.

Not sure how much importance turians would give to smell though. Their noses are mighty small...

@ silentstephi: Ok, yeah, I see what you mean. Which is why my first assumption was a sweet smell: that, at least, has a basis in what we know about their body chemistry. Anything else is pretty much a wild guess.

As for showers, I really liked the idea that someone mentioned a while ago about steam showers. Gets around the "water-in-the-cowl" problem quite conveniently.

Just thought it was wierd with DAO2 especially given that implied February 2011 release date that was floating around not so long ago.  Maybe that has been pushed back.  It just seems they would have something to say about it if it is less than a year off.  Oh well.

And yes, I believe turians do sweat.  Sidionis mentions waking up soaked in sweat due to bad dreams.  Maybe he is just being figurative there but why would a turian talk about a bodily function he doesn't even posses?  It would seem a very peculiar thing to do to me.

I don't think size of nose has anything to do with power of sense of smell. Turkey buzzards just have little slits for a nose and they have pretty much the most powerful sense of smell in existence. I think turians have both good sense of smell and vision (maybe a very movement based vision like a bird's.) I think that fits well into the predatory thing.

Also on the cowl/shower thing, isn't the bone ridge open at the front?  It might pool at the back of the neck but it seems like it would just run down their shoulders and chest.  We get techincal here don't we?

They have got to have great vision. I would like to hear that incorporated into ME3 somewhere, maybe a turian remarking about someone he can see all the way across the Citadel, while his companion can't see it.

Turian: Oh, isn't that Joe Blow all the way across the ward? Eeugh, what a terrible shirt.

Human: you mean that little speck all the way over there?? :?

I often wondered if some ME aliens see in black and white. Some animals do that. I've also wondered in some aliens can pick up colors we can't. The hanar can and I think Thane says he can but that's because he had his eyes altered.

Oh lol. On my Thane loyalty mission, my Shep just fell from the catwalks and I haven't been able to do anything to continue with the mission properly.

This has nothing to do with Garrus (who I took with me, but looks like he decided to stay at the bar instead of coming with me... And why the hell didn't he say a word when Bailey said something about a Anti-human Turian?!) but I'm so stranged I had to post it.

My response to that would be "since when do turians actually recognize terrible shirts ?"  Then again maybe terrible shirts are like a fashion statement for them and so they are the best authority.  Got to love turian fashion or lack thereof.  You can't go wrong with a skin-tight hood and a shirt that looks like a neon Millar Lite sign!

Garrus mentions being able to smell Harkin on his LM.  And it's phrased oddly enough that I don't think it was a figure of speech.

Cats have small noses and can smell way better than us.

I thought Garrus meant that more like "Harkin is trash or offal" but you may have something there. I'll have to pay careful attention next time I play.
