I would love to see a new Virmire. As long as they keep Garrus out of it.

But maybe I'm just weird :pinched:

I don't really mind that at all, aslong they're not putting Garrus AND Tali in that position because Shepard, Garrus and Tali are like the Han, Luke and Leia of the trilogy. It what makes them three more epic in the Mass Effect trilogy really.
Maybe just pick someone whom you don't like other than Garrus and Tali.

If they decide to put them, especially Garrus, in another Virimire option, I'm going to be a very very sad panda. T_T

I think I'd stop playing if I had to Virmire Garrus.

I really, really would.  Just shut off the game.  No completion.  Just done.  Not after they gave me Garrus for two games straight.
Just... nope.  The game wouldn't finish.  And I'd be SOOOO MAD.

I'd be more pissed than when Alistair dumped me on my very first DA:O run.

Ok, I need some help here. If anyone here is a Roman expert, maybe this theory might pan out. If not, it's still fun!

So Ms. Cherrisa gave me the thought that even though we don't have a correlation between Turian tattoos and the colonies they hail from, if you check out the wiki article with a bunch of the colony names, the trivia mentions that all the colonies are named after various Roman conquests.

Since some turians seemed to not have very Roman-esque names, it's got me thinking, maybe that's because they took it from the area in which the Romans conquered. If so, then we might have a way to finagle which named turians come from which colonies. Help a fanatic out here! I know if I tried figuring out the origins of names, I'd go noisly mad. I'm probably going to be bugging a buddy of mine who's got a bachelors in history and majored in everything Roman. XD

Hmmm...but aren't the colonies in that list ones that were lost? Since the other archaeological fetch quests were all for rare, old, lost items (asari Matriarch's writings, Prothean disks, salarian ninjas), I got the impression that those colonies had either died out or been crushed in the Unification War (the main turian Hierarchy wasn't involved in the war, and the other colonies apparently hated one another enough to completely eradicate some of them). What exactly are you finding in that 'colonial insignia' quest, come to think of it? Flags? A history book?

Exactly.  No more Virmire's please. It was awesome for Me1.  Not going to be awesome for ME3.  Although now I'm worried that you'll be losing just more than 1 squaddie since you've got 12 of them to choose from.  Makes me wonder who's going to survive till the end.  Like one of those, it'syour squaddies or you, you and only select squaddies, etc....

ooo, I never considered that scenario.  Shepard having to choose between the life of her squadmates...and herself.  DO NOT WANT such a choice. BUT, it would tug my heartstrings for sure.  It would definitely make for an emotional ending.

This, if i had to sacrifice another squadmate (unless its miranda, jack, or jacob, those three can die) then i would just stop playing the game for a while and be hella mad.

I don't think they could do that without it being the very end of the game.  But yes, it would ****** me off no end.  No happy ending with your LI, whomever they may be, just a funeral for you.

I would have to question whether Joss Whendon had gotten employed at Bioware.

I will have to double check my save game because I didn't think the colonies got crushed or lost, just were brought back under the fold.
Good food for thought though! (just bad that I'm at work until 5! QQ)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's just the insignias for the colonies that were lost...not the actual colonies. I could be wrong though.

Who says they are strict about it, though? Unless they are tattooed when they are kids, why couldn't a turian switch markings?

Now, why would a turian do that? Well, maybe not for aesthetics (I really think turians don't care as much as humanity about fashion, being militaristic and all that), but if they want to change their identity... for criminal reasons, for example, they can probably do it.

Unless they are permanent tattoos, wich I doubt. Seriously, otherwise how is it like to look for a criminal turian? "Dark grey scales, tall, blue markings for X colony" (I was considering a fugitive turian character for a fanfic the other day, imagining him trying to go unnoticed in a bar. How could he otherwise?)

Why is it that the only Asari we get to fight crime with us are Pure-bloods? I thought they were a minority. Maybe I'm wrong.

I actually thought it was kind of a point that the ME-verse was making: the purebloods actually give a damn about everything, not just the asari. Knock 'em all you like, they see a bigger picture than the 'my batarian father was an EXCELLENT caregiver!' lady or whatnot. Not saying the other asari don't care at all, just that the purebloods have a more purely asari perspective on things, instead of just asari+papa's species. That and the teasing they endured for decades growing up makes them more capable of a broader spectrum of compassion and attendance to honorable duty.

Female turian plox as ME3 squadmate - prefer not to have Garrus's recon scout old flame but that's because I enjoy hearing new stories.

Would like also, believe it or not, to see a volus or even a vorcha. Maybe one bred to be really smart to work corporate sercurity on Noveria or something, who sees just how crappy his/her species is being treated and wants to do something big to help establish his species without going to the Collectors like the ones on Omega did. They seem destined to be the scum of the galaxy, foul-tempered and sharp little underdogs.

If i want another alien squadmate, its going to be either a hanar or a volus.

I think Cerberus News has named one female turian.  Shastina something.  She had a last name too.

Also, what are the meanings of Septimus and Sidonis?  All I can think of is the town of Sidon but that doesn't seem right...I always wondered if they gave Nihlus his name because he dies.  I confess I haven't really analyzed the other turian names yet.

What are some characters other than Wrex (his is the easiest)?  Shepard, Nazara, Lazarus project, and Legion are all easy and also all Biblically derived....Samara could have a connection to the ancient city but I don't know why she would; that's also the name of the scary little girl in "The Ring" lol.   Miranda's comes from Shakespeare (girl raised by magician father).   Hmm maybe I will go start this topic in its own thread -- unless you know of one that is already up?

Shastina Emperus, founder of the successful Invictus colony. She's mentioned in the Invictus description - we don't know the gender of the turian mentioned at www.cerberusdailynews.com/ but the name is Ellis Valterus. (It means "My God is the Lord" for Ellis and Valterus is probably taken from Valteri or Valtteri - which is commonly 'Walter' - and means 'army of the enemy' or more poetically '(military) force to be reckoned with'. - Short form, this turian duarch's name means Divine Army or Hand of God.)

Septimus means 'seven' or 'seventh' and numeric names were fairly common among the Romans (I guess when you're squeezing out a dozen kids over the course of a lifetime and half of them die, names become less important).

Sidonis is a Greek name (usually surname, a la Caspar Sidonis) meaning fine cloth (usually linen).

And in some cases, I think that the names are just names - virtual mom or dad just liked the sound of it.

Garrus, btw, Garrus Garrus. Garrus.

Failing that, it makes me wonder whether Sidonis's live-or-die decision will somehow have an affect.  We have no idea whether he has influence with the turian hierarchy...the fact that he was vigilante-ing on Omega makes it seem less likely.  But, we don't know how much time will pass between ME2 and 3.  There's also the possibility he knows Garrus's father or something, will tell him what's going on with Garrus, we don't know anything about Papa Vakarian or his level of influence.  Of course if he were some big general Garrus would have mentioned it, but who knows, maybe he has friends in high places, especially on the Citadel.

I guess it just seems like Garrus is the only alien in your party so far that doesn't have any influence on the behavior of his species as a whole (either literally or just as a cause and effect element of the plot). Other than Thane.  But there aren't a lot of drell to begin with.

Is it ever mentioned how Garrus gets a copy of the Thanix(sp?) Cannon schematics?

From the codex entry I got the impression that it was somekind of super-secret turian weapons project. He must have some pull or connections to get a hold of them.

Garrus. Garrus indeed.

I just recently read that same entry on Shastina in the Mass Effect Wiki (turian research that went on a tangent...). I think either directly lifting Roman/Latin names or fabricating some authentic-sounding ones is about the extent of the turian naming formula.

Oh, and final chapter of Loose Ends is (finally) up. Prepare yourselves for Papa Vakarian proverbial smackdown action!

.... :D That turn/look he gives takes on...all kinds of new context! *Faints*

Except, I just had a thought. Turians are, indeed, not mammals, as per the song's indication that we are all mammals. Quarians, quite possibly, unless they have those mammaries for some other irrational *couchfanservicecough* reason. Asari...up for debate. Most likely mammals, but not necessarily.

Anyway! Back to turians. Avians and reptiles, which they are based off of, are both egg-laying types. That...is kind of a good indication on how turians procreate.....

I wouldn't like that choice IMO it can be emotional and all that but I still wouldn't like it. I'd prefer if they make you choose between the destruction of Earth or all the other alien homeworlds. It wouldn't be as emotional but it would be just as big. I hope they don't make us choose between Shepard and squadmates especially not if it involves Garrus.

A.

Who knows what they are...

Might as well go with that.B)

They are alien species, unless devs tell otherwise, I call "we don't know squat".

Reptiles and avians got cloaca - Turians don't.
Reptiles and avians don't sweat  (mammalian trait)- Turians do.
Entry from a codex that said : Turians resemble birds of prey has been removed.

My hypothesis is as follows:
Turian were initially designed as reptiles or avians, but Garrus romance changed it and added more "mammalian" traits (Turian in the toilet).

To sum up:

Earth taxonomy does not apply. We don't know...

Krogan, despite the indicators of gestation and live (one in a thousand!) birth, are also not mammals as per Wrex's inquiry on the world where Liara is recruited. He asks Shep 'how are you mammals holding up?' or something to that extent.
