Costume update for those paying heed: I had to order new liquid latex as I apparently treated my old bucket o' goop to extreme temperatures, so it got all passive-aggressive on me and it wouldn't cast right. I may have the full prototype (hands, feet/stilts, full head and neck mask with moving mandibles) by mid-April. I'm meeting with friends in the 501st at I*Con later this month for assistance with gun props and armor, as I am not an armorer and thus need much hand-holding.
As far as armor/gun props goes...it is possible to make lovely pieces from cardboard. They're lightweight and won't get you kicked out of conventions. XD It also doesn't have to look as cheesy/cheap as it sounds. I've seen some impressive 40k cardboard crafts and Halo weapons.

Old and not necessarily the best example, but I do love the lit display.

Oh I know, but my husband's best friend owns a lazer tag store and arena so ... yeah. Lazer tag!
Awesome gallery! I happen to know Dave Pirkle - pirkleations.deviantart.com/ - who has made the best cosplay Predator costume EVER, and I'm hoping he'll help me figure out a sniper rifle.
(All my prototypes are made of cardboard, papier mache and cellu-clay BTW.)

Even if I knew how to make videos, my Mass Effect is for the Xbox 360. xD And I automatically imagine ME videos of my Shepards when I listen to music too.

Ahahaha this was awesome. Had me LoLing
And this is really starting to bug me. Now that I got the Garrus vid done, I want to do another... possibly Thane, but I'm coming up against the wall of lack of Thane footage. There's only so much you can reuse...
Oh and I wish I had caught this earlier, but Nine Inch Nail's Discipline is actually a pretty awesome Garrus song... (was suggested by CrookedAsylum over at NSAS. XD
"Loose Ends" by Imogen Heap... Kaiden material?
Oh and Garrus Turian Wang.

There are Jacob fans?
I kid. I really like him as a squadmate and if I had to choose a Cerberus type as my XO, it'd be him (in my happy little mind I chose Garrus - eat THAT, Miranda!) - but yeah, most of his romance dialog is just way too heavy-handed for me to see him as the loyal, ethical, free-thinking soldier LI he was supposed to be. (Free-thinking and soldier, not two words that typically go together, but as a personality they do fit for Jacob. Just ... not as boyfriend material.)
Thane is the boy you romance if you have an emo side (a dying man's last snatch of hope), or are just really, really into assassins (and don't mind sharing his heart with a dead wife whose memory is as vivid to him now as if she were alive....)
Jacob is the boy you romance when sex is all you are after. Casual, easy, no strings attached.
Garrus is the boy you take home to meet the parents.
(unless your Shep has none. Which might be for the best, since their likley reaction is "Oh HELL no! No daughter of mine is stradeling some filty Turien. Remember the first contact war? Your father is going to have a heart attack, You'll do him in. You'll kill your father!" etc. )

I'm the same way. All of my Shepards are like completely different people to me, so it would feel weird to romance Garrus with anyone other than my main FemShep.

I can just see that.
I wish there was a little bit more interaction between femshep and Hannah, or even her dad. And I've always found it interesting, and a bit strange, that she signs her email "Your mother, Captain Hannah." Gee mom, do you have to rub your rank in?

Oh I wasn't calling Thane emo. I just think the idea of romancing a dying man fits in nicly with an emo world view. Thane I really like - he is badass and a philosopher. My Shep is just not about contending with a dead wife for a place in the heart of someone wo is on borrowed time! lol.
Of all the 'long term' prospects for relationships offered to FemShep in ME2, Garrus is the best. As I've said before: he is the only person she can truely trust, and as for Garrus: She completes him.

My main Shepard has the Colonist background, so she doesn't have to worry about any negative responses from her parents (there's always Papa Vakarian for that), but her clone will be there with the Spacer background just for that purpose. xD Out of all of my Shepards, I wonder how many still have living parents.
OMG - Garrus introducing Shep to his Dad! That HAS to happen in the game at some point. He is gonna FREAK!
I also wonder if it ever occurs to Shepards who do have parents to tell them she's not, y'know, dead.

Before that moment, Gar and Shep had numerous examples of playful banter. Shep would say something and Gar had always had a witty response to "one up" the commander, all in the name of good fun of course. For example, Shep points out to Mr Vigilante that if he "knew" they were running around down there he wouldn't have "shot at them", gar playfully responds he was trying to get her to hurry up. He very much enjoys sassing Shep but still has great respect for her. That style of conversation repeats itself throughout the game; another example was when Garrus asks Shep how his face looks. She jokes that he was "always ugly" and he responds that the ladies like men with scars.
Garrus so far has never been rendered speechless in their playful talks. When Shep and Gar talk about his life and the turian way to work off stress, Gar being the witty and confident fella that he is, can't help but mention what happened after the sparring match. At this point Shep has had a growing attraction for the Turian and seizes that opportunity to make her attraction clear but also to "one up" the Turian in terms of a witty response, a response even HE couldn't predict would happen. I think this was the perfect chance for Shep to let Garrus know she likes him as well as using his comment against him in a humorous way, just as Garrus enjoys doing to Shep all the time; “You mean we can say no to suicide missions now?”
To me, this wasn’t forward but simply the commander keeping in tone with their funny exchanges, except this time she is curious how Gar responds.
At first Gar jokes that he didn’t realize Shep had a weakness for men with scars but then he detects the genuine attraction beneath the humour and says “yeah...definitely”.
After that moment the exchanges are no longer in joke form anymore as they no longer need to be (except maybe Shep asking Gar when they should “book the room” haha). So I viewed the “reach and flexibility” talk as in character and not out of the blue by any means, their relationship is also based on humor so it made sense of Shep to use a bit to let Gar know she liked him.

Everyone keep suggesting Garrus music, too, I'm getting a good collection going.
Squee! MissNet you are mah hero! Now my DH can O_o everytime my phone screams "HEADSHOT!" at him. *L*
Also, this one-shotter, as promised: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5805675/1/
In other news, I'm following the ME turian/etc. personas, but one thing that bugs me: The guy who plays the most active Garrus (I think there's like 3, but only 1 who posts regularly) is very anti-GarrusXFemShep. *pout* The guys who play Chellik, Lihilera-whatever and Turian Councilor, on the other hand.,.. >

Yes. Garrus and FemShep are teh kindred spirits. ==
Sshepard and Garrus help keep each other on track. She is his moral centre, what gives him direction and purpose. He is her shelter in the storm: the one person who has never let her down. They think the same, they 'get' one another.
I agree with Hyrul_gal that the banter showcasing their attraction is there in the beginning. ("If I wanted to do more than take down your shields, I would have") I think Shep is forward because she knows she'll have to be, because she knows Garrus (the fact that she was recently dead, and likly to be so again soon, probably helps). They are both testing the water, and give one another plenty of ways out. I think at this point in the story, they are both a little lost in their lives....
... and then they find each other!

Oh, this is looking fantastic so far! I'm assuming this is going to be Garrus and his team on Omega. Very cool. Please be sure to keep us updated on how this is progressing!
As for Garrus' potential future importance in the story: Hmm. You know, after replaying a little bit of Mass Effect (which has become incredibly difficult for me to do after Mass Effect 2), I remembered that in order for anyone to get into C-Sec, they need to have either a "Citadel Councilor" or "the ambassador of an associate Council race" sponsor an applicant’s skills and candidacy as an agent. You don't just "join" C-Sec, your skills and service history (provided an applicant has one) need to be evaluated and considered, not entirely unlike the Spectres. A similar process of representation is necessary in order to be targeted as a Spectre. For example: in the first game Udina pushes Shepard forward as humanity's best offer for Spectre status, and in the first Mass Effect book, Ambassador Goyle makes a bid for Anderson.
This makes joining C-Sec and/or the Spectres pretty prestigious. Now I'm kind of curious as to who supported Garrus' candidacy for C-Sec and/or the Spectres. This would also kind of explain how Garrus may have had access to the Thannix cannon technology for the second game: being a member of C-Sec, being a (potential) part of the team that takes down Saren and rejoining C-Sec/joining the Spectres means Garrus might have more political weight in turian society than he leads on to.
BUH.
By the way: Have you guys/ladies had your cuppa
