My FepShep just did not talk to Kaidan at all in the first Mass Effect. He was kind of boring and I held out for Garrus in ME2. I was pleasantly surprised.
Now, Bioware has stated that they wanted it to be "very difficult" to stay faithful to your ME1 love interest, and I think they followed through on this. They've got the creative power to pull at your heartstrings through cutscenes and dialogue and such.
However, after Kaidan's outburst (not applicable to me, sorry Kaidan, but you ate fallout) on Horizon, how the HELL are they going to make him attractive again? A yell-fest to me one e-mail will not undo >:C
I kind of worry that Garrus might have something written in that would be out of character (well, in my eyes) for him. Would hate to see him give the Horizon treatment or worse to my FemShep.
I feel like the only person in the entire world that liked Kaidan slightly
more as a result of the Horizon encounter. Nice to see he grew a personality in the interim between ME1 and ME2. Same goes for Ash: seeing both of them say "Teaming up with a sick terrorist organization? Um,
no, you know what?
Not OK." made me like them more, because they're standing up for what they believe in and not just caving in because Shepard is TEH LUV OF DER LIFE!!!11. I thought it was especially in-character for Ashley, since she's so emotionally-driven. Kaidan was a bit more jarring, but in a good way. Maybe it's different because I watched those scenes without the emotional attachment of romancing them, but I was very satisfied. I dunno. You spend a lot of the first game watching everybody kiss Shepard's ass and it's nice to see a change, and we saw it in the "dark second act". Seems fitting.
That being said, such an encounter with Garrus would not make sense to me in the third game. This is about conclusions, and conflict was more appropriate for the middle of the relationship. Garrus and all of the LI's need to focus on a conclusion in ME3.
