Talimancers are lucky. They have a walking encyclopedia for Quarian info (with a damn cute voice, might I add).
Garrus, on the other hand, is too busy either expressing his gratitude or calibrating.

Naw, he only expresses his gratitude if you choose the renegade option. Otherwise it's "*awkward pause* I ... see, Commander. I'll think about that".

He was such a cute little n00b in ME1 sometimes.

Really? XD

I dunno, the looping dialogue even on my Paragon Shep was "Commander. I just wanted to thank you."

But the line you pointed out is...so...CUTE.

Renegade for LIFE >.>

Gah, can't stay up to talk, stupid eyes are burning from a smokey deep frier...

Night Garrus fans <3 (It'd be pretty sweet to get the turian version of Tali somewhere down the road... wouldn't it? Doesn't need to be as bubbly adorkable... just the walking encyclopedia type... like... a tattoo artist, perhaps? /shifty eyes... writes stuff down... dies)

No, he expresses his gratitude if you hardcore Paragon or Renegade him, either way. It's only if you middle-of-the-road him, he says the "I...see." one.

Just to chime in on the facial tattoo issue, the codex on the unification war stands out to me.  The hostilities began between the colonies farthest from Palaven, those that had distanced themselves from the Hierarchy,
and became the most xenophobic and isolated. I would assume the residents of these outer colonies would be the ones to identify most strongly with their particular colony (staking primary importance on ‘their’ people as opposed to Turians as a whole) and therefore most likely to wear their markings as a matter of national pride (like 100% of the population.)  Closer to the homeworld, the Hierarchy rules, so less of stake in what particular colony an individual belonged to, therefore markings become more of an aesthetic thing.  From the codex “To this day, most Turians still wear the facial markings of their home colonies.”  Implies to me that it’s definitely not all Turians, and it’s not such a huge deal anymore, especially the closer you get to the central territories.  Kind of like an American getting an Irish flag tattoed on their arm.  Why’d you get that tattoo?  Ummm, my dad’s Irish, and I thought it looked cool.  In short, we may never know because it’s not a set in stone rule, it’s up to each Turian to decide what they have.  Maybe Garrus thought it made him look badass.

I do wish Bioware would release some sort of compendium of all their official Turian facts (never going to happen, I know.)  They put so much work into making this huge detailed universe, makes me wonder if they have more detailed background info for Turian history/culture/biology to reference for continuity when they add new content, and that isn’t included in the game because it’s kind of irrelevant minutiae (not to me!) and it would make the codex huuuge.  Or the writers just make it up as they go along :(
Wanting more info on Turians seconded.  There isn’t nearly enough and it’s fascinating.

Argh.  Edited for formatting

What you say about the Codex entry on the Unification War (another Firefly reference! *squee!*) is what I think I lean towards.

As for the other, I don't know - maybe if they want our money enough they'd give us a tabletop RPG.  They're doing it for Dragon Age.

I never picked up on that Firefly reference /hangs head in shame.  Mmm, Captain Tightpants.  Great, now I'm all distracted.

The only thing that throws me off is the issue of barefaced Turians.  If it was personal choice why wouldn't everyone have them?  Maybe it could be a sign of rebellion.  For humans there is a still a stigma to having a majority of your body tattooed, so some people (not all of course) do it to purposely not conform.  Could be opposite for Turians.  Being barefaced could be a sign of open rebellion against social mores.  Warden Kuril on purgatory isn't exactly the most conformist (He's a merc.  And putting people out airlocks!)

In some cases your kind of like a mentor to garrus. I was thinking that maybe in the future if you convince his father, and him, he might go into spectre training and you would be his mentor. Thought that would be pretty cool.

I think it's about tradition, not choice - though perhaps each turian has a choice as to which tattoo (or none) they take from which parent. Turians are rather hide-bound - big fans of regulations and tradition, of being part of society rather than individualistic.

Very much enjoying "Ashes to Ashes" BTW.

You make good points, ELE...I dunno, man! Like I said, the problem that I have with colony markings being optional is that barefaced is an undesirable social status; if they had an option to not be barefaced, surely they wouldn't be? Which leads me to think there must be some kind of regulation on it; maybe you need to produce a family history to get your colony marking.

And turians are all about identifying with a group; possibly specific colony markings have lost some meaning to younger turians, and it's just more about belonging to the tattooed majority? I DUNNO, MAN :[

It drives me nuts that we have less knowledge about the turians than any other major race. Hell, we know more about krogans and quarians than turians! I was kind of hoping an upcoming novel might focus on them, like Ascension did for the quarians, but nope, more TIM/Reaper stuff. I would buy ten copies of a turian or salarian-centric novel, Bioware. TEN. COPIES.

I honestly don't think Garrus has any super special secret connections in regards to the Thanix Cannon. They wanted to give him an upgrade and that was it. How he acquired the knowledge of it was probably something that BioWare didn't put much thought into.

Might be a conflict of interest since I'm bu-oning him

Although we are kind of this

I actually did think before Mass Effect 2 came out that Garrus would have become a full blown SPECTRE and we'd join forces.

So on a different and only vaguely Garrus-related topic, anyone else a little let down with the Arc heavy weaponry? "All this DA:O talk, the ME people are gonna be soooo happy tomorrow". Okay it's a nice weapon for free, yeah, but I was hoping for MOAR STORY.

You're definitely not the only one! I was actually hoping it was the Firewalker DLC, but I guess it's not late enough in the month for that.

I was at work checking Bioware's twitter account every hour, and when I saw it was just a new heavy weapon (which I only use for stronger enemies) I drooped.

Well...Kasumi will be coming out in April, supposedly. Dunno how much story her 90-minute dlc will hold, though.

Hi Everybody. My nick is Beo, and I'm anonymous Garrus fan.

<moment of awkward silence>

I'm watching this thread from the beggining of first one, ad I have to admit, that You guys and gals make my life brighter ^^

First of all, I would like to say I'm sorry for my English, yet it is my second language.

Now I would like to write down some of my thoughts:

First, the whole romance was in my opinion... Almost perfect. This is how it should look, especially when Shepard is person with an outgoing personality. I loved the awkwardness of the situation, because, lets admit it, it should be that way, it made the whole situation far more realistic.

When it comes to Garrus reaction.. In my opinion it just shows how much he cares for Shepard. Even if I'm not certainly sure if it love, i know it is deep. He was as nervous as would I be if women which i really cared for would suddenly ask me out. Same goes for the whole romance plot. I don't really think that he was closing doors, and waiting for the last moment possible because he was afraid of crew morale. it was rather about Shepard, and how it would influence her relations with other crew members. I guess he just didn't want to cause any problems for her.

Also if he would just like to work out some stress, i don't think he would not watch vids and gone through Mordin lecture about interspecies intercourse (I feel so dirty now), cause Garrus, in my opinion of course, is person which just hates to be lectured. And even more he hates to admit that he lacks strength or knowledge. And here goes my favourite part. Every other romance scene is conclude with something at least suggesting psychical attraction. In Garrus cause it all sums up with one line:

,,I want something to go right just once... just..."

It makes it different, and in my opinion, as emotional as Thane, yet hitting totally different strings. First time we see Garrus so... afraid. And it is all because of fact, that he may miss his chance with Shepard. I think he couldn't say anything more important to her with exception of big word beginning with letter,, L". He admitted that it is most important thing in his life now, something he cannot afford to lose.

And now after I embarrassed myself completely, I want to say that Garrus betrayal would be perfect scenario, but only on case, where the creators would remember, that Turians never lie. I'm currently fighting with a fanfic about second human Spectre, which joins Shepard crew after events of ME 2. He hates Shepard because of his past, and at first wants only to infiltrate her ship, only to in the end sacrifice himself to save Garrus. but to stay on topic. I think that Garrus have for Shepard would be more important than his mission.

Even if our favourite Turian would be a spy, it doesn't mean that he doesn't care for Shepard, as we could see, he may even try to pull her up while being under fire. If he would work undercover I doubt he would be faking his feelings.

And reports for council would explain why those goddamn calibrations are taking so long.

But to cheer You up. I remember that there was a codex entry that said, that Turians never lied. They were sometimes avoiding the truth but they never lied.

You just got wall-o-texted

P.S.

Garrus!

Hello! Welcome to the mass of fanatic fans. :D

Once again, on the topic of betrayl, I don't know, it's not something I'd really like to think about. :crying:
Aside from that I basically agree with everything you said.

Just wanting to add my voice of support for Garrus :) He is my favorite ME2 character - he really grew on me since ME1. He has a great sense of humor and is overall a nice guy. I was really happy they chose to have him as a LI and hope they keep him for 3!

First of all Hi Beo, welcome to the garrus love and adoration board, it's always nice to have another garrus fan around
On the betrayal topic, i cant vision garrus betraying shepard, and turians arent good liars so the double agent theory looks very fragile right about now, garrus is more likely to leave shepard to start a new team or put that stick back up his butt rather than shoot him/her on the back of his/her head.
but that just my opinion though, no need to spread it around

yeah i totally agree with you on the garrus romance  out of all the other romances his was the most emotional one of all and to see THE garrus vakarian exposed and insecure is just a wonderful suprise as it adds another dimension to the romance, I just hope the garrus-shepard romance is actually a romance and not a fling
