Garrus has been my favorite character since ME1, and I think the only thing I was disappointed with in that game was the lack of romance options. For a female Shepard who would not romance Liara because the asari look just like females, the only option is Kaidan, and he was totally stuck in the friend zone for my main Shepard. She's only interested in turians, but in the case of the others who might be interested in a human, there was only one male to choose from, and his personality might not fit their tastes. (The first ME was still my favorite game by far though. :D And then ME2 corrected that little problem!)

Shepard #9 wants a krogan though, and until one shows up with a romance option available, or at least a criminal-type human, she will remain single. xD Then there's Shepard #13 who wants TIM, Shepard #4 who will only have a chance with an awesome female turian or someone as tragic as himself, and one probably wants a male Quarian... not that I'm expecting any of that. I'm just glad the Garrus romance happened. :)

I don't know what initially attracted me to Garrus; all I remember is that part-way through my first playthrough I suddenly realised "Holy ****, I'm in love! When did that happen?"

Something about him just clicked with me. It might have something to do with how similar we were at that point. We were both growing up, still finding out who we were, looking to others for help and guidance. Since then I've grown up a bit and, in ME2, so has Garrus - we ended out being at roughly the same stage in our emotional development again :P Or maybe I'm just over-analysing things in an attempt to find a reason.

Plus, he's awesome, my in-game best friend, and someone I can trust. That always helps.

I think if you play out the other FemShep romances, the Garrus one is by far the more 'relationshipy' one there is, and therefore the most interesting. I'm not a massive fan of how the other two play out. Jacob is just there for the sex (and is damn sleazy about it), and FemShep is out for what she can get. Thane is the tragic hero trying to find the light before he dies, and FemShep is attracted to his darkness, and also wants to wayaly his fears about dying, but I always feel like she is bedding him because she doesn't know quite what else to say and they could all die the next day anyway. (I do feel a bit bad not romancing Thane at times, because he doesn't have many options. But then, he does have that vivid memory thing going for him, so I'm sure he's OK. lol)
With Garrus, there is a lot on the line: the friendship could crumble, and at this point (if you have had him with you since ME1) Shepard is the only close friend Garrus has left, and Garrus has proven himself the only person Shepard can truely trust! (he was the only one to answer Shepard's call to fight with her again). I got a feeling Garrus has always had feelings for Shepard, but in ME1 she was almost his mentor. Now, 2 years later, they are equals. I think Shepard looks to Garrus for strength and guidence almost as much as she looks to him (depending on the choices you make). If this relationship doesn't work out, they are both losing something major, and let's face it, Garrus could well go off the rails (without Shep, he seems a little lost).
Not to mention all the research they both have to do (well, I'm not totally sure Shep does her fair share of that, judging by the post-consumation couch sitting scene we get  Posted Image) - if it was about the sex, just bang Jacob. He's a pretty gentleman. Posted Image With Garrus, it's about the whole damn thing.

And the extra dialogue with Mordin is worth anything! XD

Yes. This is unfortunate. But bless his heart for trying. Posted Image

I chose Garrus because of the absolute trust he and Femshep share. I think that's quite rare. They are very much alike, always fighting for justice with everything they have. And he has a great sense of humour! I can picture them talking about everything, little every day things even - not so much with the other LIs. The other romances are nice, but Garrus is the type of guy you'd marry

Garrus is irreplaceable!

I felt the same way, I thought it will never happen. I was never into  Sci-Fi stuffs and aliens in there before. I saw it as stupid, silly whatever. Totally shortsighted-ya I know. I liked more fantasy worlds with good fairies and evil witches. I am glad that I gave chance to Mass Effect. This game and Garrus made me to like it, now I became almost obsessed x). Do you think even after Shepard story ends that we will get more of these chars, especially Garrus or their story will end with Shepards aswell?

I went for Liara in my initial Mass
Effect playthrough (Kaidan? I romanced him back when his name was
Carth), but Wrex and Garrus made up my go-to team for missions. They
were my favorites. When I finished Garrus's proto-loyalty mission,
though, and he had the line where he was all "I wanted to thank you.
I've never met someone quite like you" but then finished off with
"I--uh, never mind..." I was like OH MY GOD DID I MISS TAPPING THAT and
flailed around on the internet until I came up with nope, just
Kaidan/Ashley/Liara romances. I was greatly disappoint that day.

I still want to know what he was about to say.

Oh holy turianoly :( I was sooo freaking mad! I yelled at my monitor: "What?! You can't talk with me like "I, uh nevermind" finish what you started! What the heck you wanted to saaay, teeel meee! Say IT! DO IT! NoooOOoo!"
Seriously, I was crushed! That I could control whole game and that Bioware invented interrupts in that time I would throw him on mako and :o....^_^ and nwm lol... Then Kaidan came and gave me hand, ya know...  I can't forgive myself totally lack of hope that they will make Garrus as LI one day but I never visited site and forums back in Me1 and didn't have idea that  there were wild wars going on for making him as LI. I must thank you people and to Bioware! I guess in that time Garrus was secretly watching me and Kaidan dancing in Flux : ))) then he was probably like: "Oh damn, that I told her now we would dance together! She really likes this music. But I guess it is not mean to be, she is a human and I am a turian." (like I thought aswell)... Want to say, in my mind he totally felt in love with Shep when he saw normal, natural her relaxed and happy on dance floor  so in last romance he put that Flux song to remind them on old hopeless days for them when they were crazy secretly for each other and thinking that they will never be more than just a friends ^^... Lol pitty that english is not my main language I would go to write probably fanfics now :P. But I gave you already enough headaches with this post :bandit:.

edit: I didn't get Mordin advice part because he thought that I was hitting on him <_<...I swear I WASN'T! I am faithfull to Garrus and I am not letting him go anymore B)!.................lol did I say "I"?.... I mean my FemShep my FemShep! : ))))) I have bf in real life xD

Meghan Shepard got dumped by Kaidan Alenko. Broken hearted, she spent more and more time with her best friend, the one she trusted above everyone else. After all, he was there on Horizon when Kaidan stomped her heart into tiny little pieces. Garrus' friendship and loyalty started to mean more and more to her as the mission wore on. For all intents and purposes, he was the XO of the ground squad while Miranda dealt with the paperwork on the ship. (I can't saddle Garrus with paperwork. Too cruel.)

During the hunt for Saren, he was like a little brother or her apprentice. But she literally woke up one day and found her whole world was gone and her friend was now her equal, not her apprentice.

Posted Image This is the exact same reasoning KayleeShep used. That, and Kaidan called Garrus out for working with Cerberus too, and I like to think that he decided, "Fine. If we can't be comrades anymore, then I'll just have to take this perfectly good woman you just discarded for myself and go, then. Good day to you, sir!"
I -always- bring Garrus along for that, just for that reason. If we don't get an Alenko/Vakarian showdown, then at least I want Garrus there when Kaidan shuts me down in the first place.
Won't happen on my current playthrough, though. Virmire's coming up. Posted Image

Wasn't actually interested in Mass Effect or 2, then I got it as part of a deal for a new Xbox 360 to replace my broken Xbox. Then I realised there was a character like Garrus in it. I've just got 2, I've yet to play 1. Hopefully I may get it soon. And play through both as femShep.

I wasn't actually sure whether to save Sidonis or let him get assassinated, this thread made me think about it a little bit more. Well, this first playthrough I saved him, it was pretty much the paragon choice, it appeared...

What attracts me to Garrus so much? Part of it is that I find Turians attractive, and he's quite an attractive Turian, definitely. It's sad, but I probably wouldn't be as attracted to him if he was human or other. He's also got quite a personality, and I take him on every mission that I can.

Then, there's the relationship itself. This guy's been with Shepard for a long time, and stood by her and joined her, even after 2 years of being "dead", and their friendship must have really developed and matured. I really think that Garrus would have been the perfect person to spend the rest of their life with. He's right, Shepard is pretty much the only friend he has left in this screwed up galaxy.

What I also quite liked is when he said "I'm not going to pretend I've got a fetish for humans... but this isn't about that. This is about us," even if he doesn't have an attraction for humans, he's willing to take the relationship further, to make it work, no matter what. You don't need to be sexually attracted to somebody to fall in love with them, or perhaps even make love, and Garrus is willing to do everything he can to build up this relationship. It's really quite endearing.

It's strange, but I actually love Garrus a lot. Maybe it's the above reasons, maybe it's also because this is the only game I'm aware of with a romance option for somebody like Garrus. Also, am I the only one who doesn't find Thane remotely attractive?

I was thinking about this for a little bit. But you guys remember when garrus hinted that there may be something worse then the reapers? Was that a little foreshadowing thing bioware planted in there or was it just random dialouge?

@ Flammie-

No, you're not the only one who doesn't find Thane attractive. I'm not hating on him as a character, but...as a LI? Nope. Not for my Shep. 1. I find his eyes creepy (both the way he blinks, and the way he stares when he's doing his flashbacks) 2. His character seems designed to appeal to women who are into dark, tragic romances, which leave me completely cold 3. Too much family-related baggage, especially considering he has perfect recall of every minute he spent with his perfect wife...whose nickname he insists on using with me. Ick.

Garrus, on the other hand, is funny, sweet, downright adorable when nervous, and passionate about fighting the good fight. All things my Shep appreciates deeply. As for his appearance, well, to paraphrase Garrus--I won't pretend that I've got a fetish for turians, but this PARTICULAR turian grew on me. Now I can't even imagine him as anything else.

So since we'd all like to marry Garrus... how would you like to get kids with him?

a) adopt turian

b)adopt human

c) adopt both turian and human

d) ask Mordin to mix your dna in a test tube and get an übercute mongrel that everyone will be scared of and that prolly can't reproduce ?

I think I'd adopt both turian and human babies.

I say adopt a Turian. It would be interesting to see what happens to a Turian child who's mother is a human.

As much as I'd like to think about a happily ever after... I don't think kids factor into the whole relationship equation for Garrus and Shepard.

They've got other crap to deal with. I'm going to guess that even if they do Save the Galaxy! there's still going to be crap they need to deal with (barring Shep doesn't die from saving the Galaxy. GARRUS IS NOT ALLOWED TO PERISH. :P)

But really, i think a happy ending between them would just be a new beginning of adventures after the reapers are delt with.

I find the romances that are the MOST believable are the ones that have been built  on a foundation of friendship. I need to believe these two characters could just TALK or have a laugh together without a threat of a reaper or suicide mission to act as the conversation topic or the reason for them to get together. Their romance doesn't feel rushed either, it felt like a natural progression, like this was SUPPOSED to happen. Sure Garrus has had sad moments in his life but that doesn't become the topic he focuses on while he romances femshep, instead the dialogue is realistically awkward and adorable and he only thinks of HER and talks about HER and not his own personal issues
The conversations were about THEM and nobody else, it felt special compared to say thane who talks about his dead wife and son problems. Shep (to me) felt like a band aid in that respect but with Garrus, it was about two friends who wanted to take it to the next level. I can picture them enjoying each other’s company because they were friends to begin with, so it just makes sense that they would be the best pairing.

Why I chose Garrus? He's just everything I like.

I romanced Liara in ME1. I couldn't care less about Kaidan. Liara was cute, but she was more like a fling to me. I like women, but women tend to miss a... ehm... certain something . I loved Wrex and Garrus too, but romancing them didn't cross my mind. I didn't think it was possible so I just saw them as friends.

Jacob is just... not my type. He's nice and all, I liked the romance I saw on YouTube (except the priiiiizeline), but he's not someone I could fall for. And, he's human.

Thane is also nice. His flashbacks didn't freak me out. But when I'm talking to him, it feels like I'm talking to a wise, 60-year old man. So, no, he's not my type either. I'd rather hook him up with Samara.

I always liked Garrus, but like a friend. He's nice, loyal and he has a nice sense of humor. When he started talking about reach and flexibility, I was like... really? I CAN ROMANCE HIM? I sat there with a huge grin, bouncing up and down like a schoolgirl. And now I really love him. I guess I have to thank all of you who pleaded for Garrus as a LI in ME2.

But if that krogan breeding request turns out to be Wrex' request in ME3... I'll have countless sleepless nights to figure out who I'm going to choose ^^.

Agreed, I just want the romance to be about them and to me, Garrus and Shep would be happy as a crime fighting romantic duo sans the kiddies (sounds FAR more exciting to boot). Bioware can bring up relationship obstacles without going the predictable baby route, I'm sure they are more imaginative than that.

I think Garrus saying there may be worse threats than the Reapers may just be dialogue, or him being cautious. You never know, there could always be. Makes you tense, but there may not be anything worse.

I don't really like how Thane looks, or his tragic, cold story and past. I guess everybody likes something different.

To be honest, I'd be lying if I said I haven't got a fetish for Turians, but I'd control myself enough to not throw myself at any Turian male in my line of sight if they ever did exist. Which would be amazing beyond what words can describe. But extremely unlikely. Unless somehow our technology suddenly turns on fast-forward, aliens (but not like those ugly aliens that masks seem to be based on... ugh) turn out to exist and in a few years we're making liasons with turian-like beings or anything else in outer space. It'd be more interesting than a human, definitely.

If I had to choose, I'd see Shepard and Garrus adopting a child, but it's unlikely that'll happen. They're moving too much and going on quite a few adventures. Let them hone their reach and flexibility on their own.

Shepard and Garrus seem to make me think of Monica and Chandler from Friends. Minus London and accidently falling into bed together. Though that would be interesting.

I don't think I'd leave Garrus for a krogan. I find them far too beefy. Garrus is slender, and he's got reach. Lovely.

I imagine that my main Shepard would want a human/turian hybrid child at first, until her aunt tells her about the pain of having children and how "lucky" she is that it's not possible naturally for her and Garrus. xD Unless it was grown in a test tube... but then she'd have to deal with the Illusive Man's objections (because it's easier to kill after they made it, without harming Shepard). Maybe he won't mind as much when Shepard says they would make it a powerful biotic, and many of the turian genes could be considered "enhancements" for the human genes? It would probably just be easier for her to adopt though, and she would want a turian child. :) She really doesn't like that many humans.

@Cerrydd: If Wrex is a romance option in ME3, I've got a separate Shepard just for him!

Regarding Thane: I love dark, tragic romances.  I just can't stand lizards, or frogs, or anything with green skin.  I don't even like to LOOK at Thane.  Ugh.  Just no.

Garrus just grows on you.  He's that guy, one day you just wake up next to him, wondering 1) How did I get here and 2) Why didn't I do this sooner?
